Yes; the SCOTUS appointments is a huge issue. If Trump is elected, and when he’s appointing Justices, I hope he looks to the correct conservative people to help guide him in his choices. I wouldn’t completely trust him to pick great people on his own, considering his history although it appears he’s trying to do the right thing for us now. He seems to be a bit star struck, and a president needs to get past that. We already have one of them in the White Hut now.

Nothing is guaranteed. Bush appointed dreadful Harriet Miers who, fortunately, was knocked out of the running. We expected better from him.

Alas, there is another, more likely possibility that many on this website seem blinded to:

Mr. Trump clearly loves this country and is exceedingly good at doing and saying whatever it takes to make a deal happen. For example, I don't believe that he meant it even then when he called the Clintons "good friends."

It is therefore entirely likely that when he is officially validated in his own mind as the most important human being on this planet, he will proceed to do whatever the hell he believes is in the nation's best interest.

On of these things could very well be following through on his theory that his sister Maryanne Trump Barry would make a "phenomenal" Supreme Court justice.

As a federal circuit judge in New Jersey she called a law prohibiting partial birth abortion a "desperate attempt to undermine Roe v. Wade."

Look: I haven't ruled out Trump, and I will gladly vote for him if he is the nominee. On a personal level, it would be great for me if he were president -better than every single one of the remaining candidates. But these are things that we here on FR should be at least discussing right now before we anoint anyone. Talking about these things in places like this one are one of the ways we get reporters to pay enough attention to get candidates on the record.
