COPPERAS COVE â Elizabeth Laird âThe Hug Ladyâ passed away Thursday at Metroplex Hospital.
Laird made it her mission to hug every single soldier as they boarded planes to deploy and waited with a hug when they returned to welcome them home.
She was 83 years-old.
Services are pending with Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home of Copperas Cove.

What a wonderful lady she was. I saw a news piece on her yesterday and she looked noticeably worse than she did in the pieces from the hospital a just few weeks ago (very frail and tiny). I’m very sorry for her son, but I’m so glad he has gotten to see just how beloved his mother was.
God bless you, Mrs. Laird. Thank you for all you’ve done for Ft. Hood, central Texas and the many, many who’ve passed through our community.
