I'm with you. Trying to convince someone that they are wrong about this or that firearm is going to be about as successful as convincing them they are wrong about redheads vs brunettes... (personally I love my 3rd gen G19 and carry it regularly) Modern quality semi-autos are all very reliable. Yes, we have all heard of or maybe even experienced the rare exception to that rule. Get a firearm, break it in, and by then you'll know if you've got something you can rely on or you've got one of the very rare ones with an issue.

I would only recommend against one firearm, a Ruger LCP 380. Actually, there's probably nothing wrong with it, it is more a case of not liking extremely small recoil operated semi-autos. By their very design and characteristics they have to have stiff springs since their parts are so lightweight. This makes them difficult to rack for people without a strong grip. (eg. my wife - we thought it would break in some, it hasn't) Wife also has a problem with limp wrist holds - if you don't have a firm grip on the little bugger, it will stovepipe fairly regularly. (note, her 9mm and 45 do not) Basically it's only redeeming qualities are it's extremely small size making it easy to conceal anywhere, and that it is marginally better than nothing.
