Poll: Ted Cruz leads in Iowa; Donald Trump stays atop NH, SC
CBS ^ | 12/20/15 | Staff

Posted on 12/20/2015 7:42:33 AM PST by VinL

Donald Trump, the national front-runner, keeps his big lead in two of the three early states of New Hampshire and South Carolina, but now Texas Sen. Ted Cruz has moved past Trump into a lead of his own in Iowa.

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio remains in double digits in New Hampshire and South Carolina, and Governor Chris Christie has now shown upward movement in New Hampshire, doubling his support there in the last month.

The backdrop to all this is a mood of anxiety - both economic and personal security - pervading the GOP electorate in these early states. Nine in ten in all states feel the country is now a more dangerous and insecure place, including 95 percent of Iowa GOP voters who say that, and nine in ten feel the nation's economic system is one that hurts them instead of benefits them. Terrorism and national security are now specifically front-and-center on primary voters' minds: in Iowa, 61 percent say it is their top decision-making criteria for candidates, ahead of the economy; in New Hampshire, 66 percent cite terrorism and security ahead of 28 percent on the economy.

He’s far left of center, so why wouldn’t she be as a liberal Democrat? “universal healthcare” (”The Government will pay for it!”), more government student loan programs, etc. The race between him and Hillary will be who can spend more and provide more government services.

Heck, I'm even talking to liberals who plan to vote for Trump

Well, yes, they're voting for one of their own. Trump has not kept his far left agenda a secret. Why do people act like this would be a surprise?

Why not nominate Rubio? He is the only one beating Hillary in your table of data.

It s hard to argue that Trump has the best chance of winning in the general since he always polls the worst against Hillary.

Not Cruz campaign. Cruz SuperPAC. Big difference. By law,Cruz campaign cannot get access to them funds nor coordinate with the SuperPAC in any way.
Get it?

I’d be up for that but I don’t think Trump would.

Sounds like Cruz may be well ahead of the ground game in NH.

If he finishes no lower than 2nd in NH, he’ll be the nominee.
*********************************************************************************
I don’t know about that...maybe. But, if he does do that, between him and Cruz they’d be well-positioned to run the board and keep the RINO delegate count in a low minority.

Your glaring error is thinking Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are similar candidates.

Similar candidates in that they both have high name recognition, huge negatives among voters and media that covers their every step. Hillary actually did have a ground game in Iowa that was not implemented at the last minute, so I think that's a difference between the two.

Hillary's ground game in Iowa is quite minimal. Trump's ground game has been building for a year already, with great Iowa leadership.

He is still beholden to those that provide the puppet strings. This is why he’s been so vague in illegal immigration. He’ll let them have amnesty, definitely.

Show me anyone, who.has $10 Billion cash on hand. And I am not even talking about Donald Trump. He is not even close. I am talking Bill Gates.

It's Donald Trump that came out to support Obama’s illegal, unconstitutional “Dream Act”, which gave amnesty to millions of illegals. It was Ted Cruz who relentlessly attacked Obama over it and swore to repeal every single illegal executive act carried out by Obama on day one of a Ted Cruz presidency. Trump is yet to make such a commitment.

No way Cruz’s donors supplied more money than Donald has. Whatever they supplied, they want something in return.

You implied Trump had $10 Billion cash on hand. He doesn’t. Not even close. His net worth is $4 Billion according to Forbes and most of that is tied up in real estate. The actual cash on hand be has is much, much lower. And that is still quite different from money he actually has in his campaigns coffers. That is very little. Cruz has more money in his campaign than Trump does.

I don’t talk politics with my sister, who has always been a Democrat. I did happen to mention Trump yesterday during a conversation, and oh my - she and her entire family - are all in for Trump. People are going to be surprised. She does not like Ted Cruz. So, Cruz isn’t going to get the Reagan Democrats - he just isn’t.

My neighbor Kathie who is a registered dem here in Florida came over the other night and happened to ask me if I knew how she could change her voter registration so she can vote for Trump. I sent her the link to complete the application. Florida's a closed primary state. No doubt the MSM and GOPE are going to be stunned. I think deep down they're scared to death, they just won't admit it.

I’m hearing the same thing. Cruz has been building a phenomenal ground game in every state, including the Super Tuesday SEC primary states which vote on March 1. That’s why Cruz is doing a tour of the South this week. How bold is that! Shows a great game plan. I think Cruz will be rewarded handsomely for his hard work and preparation.

Hello...anybody resides in your head? Trump has been a politician for only 6 months. He was never elected to anything. Therefore Trump has no recorded votes on anything to be attacked. Out of context conversations by a businessman have zero meaning.

On the other hand Ted Cruz does have recorded votes. And in 3 years in senate what exactly has Cruz accomplished? Made many friends in senate to back him on anything? Please post list of Ted Cruz sponsored bills which passed congress.

You are right about the donors...Here’s some of Ted Cruz Super PAC donors....

Keep the Promise I Super PAC 11,000,000 from Renaissance Technologies LLC
Keep the Promise II Super PAC 10,000,000 Caprock Partners
Keep the Promise III Super PAC Wilks Brothers $15,000,000

I am not sure how the FEC decided to categorize the donation by Renaissance Technologies LLC as real estate when they are clearly Hedge Fund/Securities firm.

All data from Opensecrets.org

Cruz would like to get his $1,000,000 that he personally loaned to his Senate Campaign that is still on the his books.
