Rush Limbaugh said today on his radio show that Donald Trump’s attack on Ted Cruz over the weekend, calling him a ‘maniac’ given the way he’s dealt with McConnell and others in the Senate, is not an attack a genuine conservative would make and it has raised a red flag for him: While I would certainly vote for Trump if he were the nominee, I’ve never thought he was a genuine conservative. But I do think he’s tried in some ways to bridge his positions with conservatism and I think he generally leans in that direction.

At the end of the day though, if he becomes president, I expect a lot of compromise with Congress, especially on his more conservative positions — and I know that going into the voting booth. If you expect something different you might be in for a big surprise.

This is also why I support Ted Cruz. I do expect him to compromise with Congress as well, as he has said as much, but I don’t believe he will go so far as to compromise his principles.

Now, where have I heard this phrase today? ... ping ....

Red flag alert.

And this was not his only left inspired comment. The praising of universal government health care and of Scottish and Canadian health care in this debate season is known. As are his comments just a few short years ago about Romney's extreme position on illegal immigration and Ryan's extreme position on government spending. I've done my fair share of slamming Romney and Ryan - wrote a book doing so - but it's crucial WHY you cast these aspersions.

Everyone is reading too much into this. Rush is just doing his job to keep the playing field level. He was concerned with what Trump said and as he just stated could not let it go by without a comment. But in no way is he throwing Trump under the bus ... at least in my opinion.

Rush didn’t have the full story, I was just listening to him and he still doesn’t completely understand.

Trump (only) went critical of Cruz AFTER Cruz criticised Trump to Cruz’ donors.

There were a couple people who reported this, and Rush was saying that is the story. But there was also a recording of Cruz going negative on Trump, and that also came out. This was not hearsay. Cruz went negative, and went negative FIRST, and there was a recording of it.

(at least that is what I heard)

Only then did Trump go negative against Cruz.

I think this is blown over for now, but Rush went off half-cocked on this.

Do your homework next time Rush.

Rush comparing Trump to McAmnesty is foolish. This “kerfuffle” can be filed along with the “McCain is not a war hero” “Mexicans are criminals” and Muslims should be temporarily excluded” none of whom dented Trump. BTW he is at 41% with just a a ten point jump to the top.

Please elaborate where Trump was right? I’m a Trump guy but to call Cruz a maniac is not right and where I draw the line. Cruz is the true conservative in this race and Trump is shaking it up. However comments like this one to draw in Cruz is not beneficial. Many including me will definately stray further from Trump with attacks on Cruz such as these. The longer he pursues this action against Cruz the more he will fracture the true conservatives away from him. Scary times
