Others, including myself, have made a similar argument.

Donald Trump is a Big Government liberal.

But ALL of this is "old news" to many of his supporters who don't care and fervently cheer him on.

So I must conclude that they're Big Government advocates too.

This is moronic. Trump DID run as a Democrat using the name Jim “Mellon Head” Webb.

If Trump was running as a Democrat Martin O’Mally would be killing him and he would be sitting at the kiddie table with Mellon Head Webb.

“So I must conclude that they’re Big Government advocates too. “

You’re kidding, right?

If you look at the growth of government through Republican and Democrat Congresses, Presidencies - how could one conclude that Washington is anything but chock full of Big Government advocates?

I support Trumps stand on illegal immigration. Guess what? If he had the same positions on illegal immigration, but was a Democrat, I would vote for him.

Further, I think you’d find that many (far too many) “conservatives” on this forum receive government checks in one form or another.

Hold your nose and vote for Trump and make a positive move against illegal immigration.

Trump has never claimed to be a conservative.

The reason he’s leading is the GOP establishment is the opposite of conservative.

Its attacks on him as being liberal and big government simply have zero credibility.

Trump is a populist attacking an arrogant and out of touch uniparty establishment.

People hate it and ideology isn’t exactly what it stands for.

If you’re sick of the Ryans and McConnells running GOP Washington, Trump’s your man.

As he is for a lot of GOP primary voters looking to shake up Washington.

You have gotten so bad in posting hate Trump articles that we don’t even have read who posted them simply because as soon as we see the headline we automatically know that you posted another hate Trump article.

Liberalism is an incurable disease since it takes a brain to be conservative.

Honestly, after twenty+ years of mediocre, gutless wimpy GOP candidates who will NOT take the fight to the Liberal candidate - even stands still and takes a beating without fighting back- why not try something entirely different?

Both Bush presidencies got into bed with the libs and grossly expanded the government.

Seriously, why not step out of the box and try something unprecedented? Trump cannot at all be more damaging to the cause than the Bush family, McCain, Tadd Cochran, Mitch McConnell and John Boehnor.

Either something different and good occurs, or we get more of the same old same old.

No modern Democrat would ever have a slogan of Make America Great Again. No modern Democrat would tell the truth about how money men own politics on both sides and that the system doesn’t care about the individual.

Then of course no modern Republican would either which is why Trump is dominating the polls.

The political class is flat out arrogant and hostile to the very people it is supposed to represent and serve, and only one person in this race is saying what most know to be true. Doesn’t matter which establishment party politician wins they will wind up screwed.

GOP got the house, nothing changed... Got then Senste too nothing changed.. Now they want the White House? For what? Nothing will change other than the spin, functionally not a damned thing will differ.

The GOP wants to keep selling this country out on immigration because it’s what the payers want not the people.. Hell even with Islam they can’t put America first. Until they can better tell who is a threat and who isn’t not another damned one shoul be allowed in, this moratorium is common sense and not a damned one is willing to stand for it.

This article and those like it are idiotic. What is broken goes so far beyond the party narratives that it he fact crap like this gets printed shows just how broken the system is.

Show me one national democrat willing to even contemplate the notion Islam has a problem and then we can talk.

Trump represents the first time in decades money players won’t own the White House and that makes him a bigger threat than 100,000 terrorist willing to kill and die in our borders to both the parties and that is exactly why he’s where he is in the polls

Your calling Trump a “Big Government liberal” and focusing on his frequently shifting party allegiances really misses what’s actually going on here. Trump is not a liberal; he is a populist-nationalist. Populist-nationalists (in Trump’s brand and in European and historical varieties) put the interests of the people of their country first before that of foreigners or elites. That sometimes means they support things (certain government programs for example) that may seem liberal, but that help the struggling workers of their country. Populists have historically belonged to both the Democratic and Republican Parties, since neither party really represents their views. Yet, populism has always been an important but underrepresented force in US politics (meaning too that a populist can draw more voters across party lines than a traditional Democrat or Republican could do).

The reason populist Trump couldn’t run as a Democrat, though, is the nationalist part of his philosophy. Open-borders Democrats loathe nationalists, and it’s this America-first nationalism that is inspiring the lefties to melt-down while screaming “Fascist!” at Trump. A lot of Americans, however, feel that the globalist Dems & Repubs don’t look out for their interests at all; hence they flock to Trump, whose entire political philosophy revolves around giving the needs and safety of regular Americans precedence over those of other peoples, countries, and the elites and establishment.

I’ve read a lot about Trump, watched tons of interviews, including many old ones, etc., and I’m convinced he’s been a populist-nationalist since at least the 1980s, if not his whole life. He hasn’t switched his core political philosophy; he just doesn’t fit well into pre-defined party labels.

Hoping to do a retake of the last election if Cruz falls and Trump is the last man standing? Because we know how much better off we are and will be if we keep getting Obamas or Hillarys in the WH....

Now for a short public service announcement to all on FR:
We need to ensure we don't get another Obama-like America Hater as the next President.
The best way to ensure that is to actively support a candidate as the next President.
I prefer Cruz and my money goes to his campaign, hence the Cruz link. If you like someone else, donate to him/her (find your own link to do it) and if you use FR and don't donate, then please don't complain about the welfare leeches or those who have Obama Phones because, functionally, you are no different than any other FReeloader

PS - If you are one of those who cannot afford even a small donation to FR or a candidate, God Bless and happy FReeping!.....

GO CRUZ!! Keep it up Trump!!

Donate to FR

Donate to Cruz

Donate to FR

You are courageous to continue to post threads critical of Trump even though you know countless jackals will call you names and harass you with garbage comments like “Scott Walker lost lolololololol”. I can tell you right now, I wouldn’t be able to handle it. I thank you.

It just doesn’t matter.

He’s dead right on the single most important issue of the last 50 years- immigration. No one else can fix it. There’s too much money and power to be accumulated on both sides of the political spectrum.

I’ve been a Conservative Republican all my voting life; and that’s a long time. Given the absolutely dire circumstances in which this nation now finds itself and my absolute disgust with both the mainstream Republicans and Democrats; I just might vote for Trump even if he were a Democrat if he was saying the exact same things and laying out the hard line policies that he is now. That’s saying a lot for me personally and I never thought I’d see the day that I would say that. I have exercised my voting rights since I became of voting age. Until Trump emerged on the scene; I was pretty much resigned to giving it up. After the last election and the Republican’s outright lies to get elected, I just didn’t see the point anymore. If Trump turns out to be a tempest in a teapot; how much worse is that than the Republican’s promise to fix everything if we’d just give them a majority? They could have been well on the way to doing that but they didn’t, they haven’t and it’s clear that they’re not going to. That’s because there’s not a true Conservative among them. They just want you to think they are. Republicans keep running out that tired old phrase “but he isn’t a Conservative!” Trump supporters know that. But Trump will never be a Liberal either because he’s made his fortune and conducted his businesses in a free nation with all its benefits. He’s for Americans doing the same thing and he’s not going to “go global” and make us a third world hellhole like Hillary or Sanders want to do. Republicans are signing our party’s own death warrant anyhow and, for the life of me, I haven’t been able to figure out why.

And then there’s this. Trump could have just as easily and probably more so, run as a Democrat and had a better than fair chance of winning. He didn’t because he knows that what Democrats want means the death of America as we know it. They wouldn’t have allowed him to run on the policies that he’s putting out there now. It sure makes me wonder why the Republicans won’t let him run on those policies either.
