Ethanol represents thousands of jobs to Iowans.
That will definitely affect most Iowan voters and the choice they make.
Jobs are a priority with Iowans, and all across the Country..
I'm not an ethanol advocate but I'd prefer to continue to have it rather than have more Americans out of work.
Talk to the coal miners up in Kentucky and what Obama has done to them.
Cruz is liable to go backward in his polling numbers with iowa voters if he persists.
I know you and any Cruz supporter doesn't want to hear that but that's the reality.
Cruz will stick to his guns on this one.
It’s going to be interesting how Iowa pans out. Cruz has the evangelicals locked up, but King Corn is powerful and could put the hurt on him.
also big news - a poll is coming out tomorrow that will have Cruz ahead in Iowa. As i’ve said many times today - may the best man win!
There are times for realpolitik. Trump understands it.
Awhile ago Cruz was asked about ethanol at a town-hall meeting in Iowa. He said something like âWell - Iâm from Texas. We have lots of farms and crops down in Texas too. Corn ethanol is another resource farmers in Iowa and Texas can grow and make money from. So Iâm for ethanol. But, and hereâs where I might get your wrath - Iâm not for the government subsidies that make ethanol worth it. I know the easy thing would be to come to Iowa and say I’m for subsidies. But, I think you want someone who will do what they say, and not just say what you want to hear. And I say let the market decide what the farmer grows. Big government doesnât need to be in the family farm. Heck - thatâs what Iâm campaigning against - our government is big enough and intrudes enough already!â He got a good round of applause.
I hear the “jobs” argument in a lot of places like Alabama where the RINO governor Bentley came out and said he was not going to speak out against ‘gay marriage’ because of his concern for “jobs” for the people of Alabama.
Actually, you would have to prove that to me..
I live in a AG state, Farmers here plant what makes money for them and they make these decisions based on demand and price. The farm would still operate regardless of ethanol.
Ethanol, is a government created demand. It's a blatant case of interference in markets.
Like all government interventions in the market, even including taxes, these created markets never go away, no matter how temporary they are. It's federal government graft and corruption that never ends....
If a State and it's citizens want to engage in this, it is their constitutional right to do so and to send their constituents the bill.
But it's not the purview of the federal government to do it.
So he should put conservative principles aside in Iowa in order to boost his campaign?
Most candidates would.
But Cruz' track record speaks for itself. He's conservative even when it doesn't serve his self interest. This used to be called being principled.
No, it is not reality. Cruz has told and campaigned as such in Iowa since the beginning and his support there has done nothing but increased.
The subsidy has to stop, just like the windmill subsidy has to stop.
So you really don’t see a difference between the government aggressively putting a viable industry like coal out of business and ending subsidies for boondogles like ethanol (and wind, solar, etc)?
Funny crop of conservatives we’re growing these days.

Which proves that he is the sole candidate with moral integrity, and understanding of the disaster that Corn for Fuel has shown itself to be.

Well, at least you're honest about being a big government type.
That is correct. One ha to be both brave and a principled conservative to admit to Iowa voters that you do not support ethanol subsidies.
Since this is the same position he had when he got those big poll numbers, how do you figure? He has been open about his position on this issue for a long time.
Steve Deace said only the RINO voters who would never vote for Cruz or Trump care about ethanol subsidies.
The analogy to coal is totally bogus. Obama is using regulations to STOP the free mining of coal. That’s opposed to using regulations and taxpayer money to prop up ethanol which is not cost-effective on its own. Probably dramatically so now that gas is so cheap.
The government needs to GET OUT of subsidizing all this crap. If you can’t stand up for basic free market principles, you’re not a conservative. If you believe the government should use taxpayer money to “give people jobs,” you’re a liberal.
