Ben Carson on Friday blasted the Republican National Committee following a Washington Post report that nearly two-dozen establishment party figures were prepping for a potential brokered convention as Donald Trump continues to lead most polls.
RNC Chairman Reince Priebus held a dinner in Washington, D.C., on Monday, and, according to five people who spoke with the Post, the possibility of Trump heading into the Cleveland convention with a noteworthy number of delegates was a topic of discussion. In the meeting, a number of Republicans suggested the establishment lay the groundwork for a floor fight that would lead the partyâs mainstream wing to unite behind an alternative.
âIf the leaders of the Republican Party want to destroy the party, they should continue to hold meetings like the one described in the Washington Post this morning,â Carson said in a statement released by his campaign.
Carson said he prays the Postâs report is incorrect and threatened to leave the GOP. âIf it is correct, every voter who is standing for change must know they are being betrayed. I wonât stand for it,â said Carson, who noted that if the plot is accurate, âI assure you Donald Trump wonât be the only one leaving the party.â
The retired neurosurgeon said that next summerâs Cleveland convention could be the last Republican National Convention if leaders try to manipulate it.
âI am prepared to lose fair and square, as I am sure is Donald,â Carson said. âBut I will not sit by and watch a theft. I intend on being the nominee. If I am not, the winner will have my support. If the winner isnât our nominee then we have a massive problem.â

psst, Ben, nobody will even notice.
Carson’s political heyday came and went.
Join the crowd, Ben. And good on ya.
Missed the whole point - one of the few cases he is 100% right. Remember what they did to MS to get Cochran re-elected? They want to do it on a national scale and it will cause a freaking firestorm if the People have any sense or energy left.
Instead of misplaced quips, we would be better served if more of us actually decided to invest ourselves in conservative candidates and conservative sites (like FR for instance).
Now for a short public service announcement to all on FR:
We need to ensure we don't get another Obama-like America Hater as the next President.
The best way to ensure that is to actively support a candidate as the next President.
I prefer Cruz and my money goes to his campaign, hence the Cruz link. If you like someone else, donate to him/her (find your own link to do it) and if you use FR and don't donate, then please don't complain about the welfare leeches or those who have Obama Phones because, functionally, you are no different than any other FReeloader
PS - If you are one of those who cannot afford even a small donation to FR or a candidate, God Bless and happy FReeping!.....
GO CRUZ!! Keep it up Trump!!
The fix is in. The GOPe will nominate JEB/rubio, regardless of the primaries. If JEB/rubio/hillary/bernie wins, the GOPe wins. If JEB/rubio loses, the GOPe still wins.
If Trump/Cruz wins, ALL of the GOPe/DNC racket in DC are totally screwed, because Trump/Cruz will have a mandate to clean house.
Carson is coming around to this line of thinking. Every bit helps. Stay on point, stay on focus, and stay on the message, don’t fall for divide and conquer. The MSM/DNC/GOP are going into full attack mode. Cut their attack off at the knees.
Maybe but I actually think he is an outsider realizing what the Establishment might pull. He knows he’s fading....
Ben, there’s the door. Use it.
Not a huge Carson fan, but my respect for him just shot up several points.
Good for him standing up for the people.
Screw the GOP.
Great response.
It doesn’t seem all that surprising that Carson would speak out against tyranny and evil. There are several anecdotal examples in his books of standing up to power and doing the right thing. I doubt it will have an impact on the dynamics of the race, though.
I take it that you are ok with the GOP stealing the nomination regardless of the votes?
I don’t really like Carson, but he is right on this. So far, no one other Trump and Carson has had the guts to shove it back in the GOP’s face.
Perfect.
I’m happy Ben spoke out, it needs to be shouted all over the place. So vile what these ‘insiders’ are doing. And they wonder how Trump is ahead, really??!!
