Ben Carson on Friday blasted the Republican National Committee following a Washington Post report that nearly two-dozen establishment party figures were prepping for a potential brokered convention as Donald Trump continues to lead most polls.
RNC Chairman Reince Priebus held a dinner in Washington, D.C., on Monday, and, according to five people who spoke with the Post, the possibility of Trump heading into the Cleveland convention with a noteworthy number of delegates was a topic of discussion. In the meeting, a number of Republicans suggested the establishment lay the groundwork for a floor fight that would lead the partyâs mainstream wing to unite behind an alternative.
âIf the leaders of the Republican Party want to destroy the party, they should continue to hold meetings like the one described in the Washington Post this morning,â Carson said in a statement released by his campaign.
Carson said he prays the Postâs report is incorrect and threatened to leave the GOP. âIf it is correct, every voter who is standing for change must know they are being betrayed. I wonât stand for it,â said Carson, who noted that if the plot is accurate, âI assure you Donald Trump wonât be the only one leaving the party.â
The retired neurosurgeon said that next summerâs Cleveland convention could be the last Republican National Convention if leaders try to manipulate it.
âI am prepared to lose fair and square, as I am sure is Donald,â Carson said. âBut I will not sit by and watch a theft. I intend on being the nominee. If I am not, the winner will have my support. If the winner isnât our nominee then we have a massive problem.â

I think, it goes without saying, that the Gope is a bunch of whiners and cavers when it comes to critical issues before Congress.
So why are we so panicked when they are huffing and puffing about a brokered convention when they will cave to the obvious front runner to avoid, themselves, being the third party and irrelevant?

-— now just a bunch of fascist establishment lying backstabbing hacks -—
They’re finally out in the open where the can be dealt with.
I applaud Dr. Carson for taking a principled stand.
But he’s still a strongly representative name. Carson is something like everyone’s third choice: no way he’s going to win, but still influential and indicative of what voters want. (Unlike Jeb & Christie, whom nearly everyone truly doesn’t care about.)
Excellent.
I sent the RNC my only - and final - contribution when W was elected. We got what they paid for. Bush ran as conservative for Governor, then crypto-conservative as president.
I was asked in an email from Mr. Sowell if I was a Republican. I replied, “I used to be. Now I’m a conservative.”
Outstanding!
Good for Carson. Fiorina should be next. Then Cruz and Rubio.
I’m glad for what Carson is saying.
If they try to rig the process, GOP will implode and deservedly so.
“why are we so panicked when they are huffing and puffing about a brokered convention when they will cave to the obvious front runner to avoid, themselves, being the third party and irrelevant?”
Because there are indications they’re actually willing to split the vote for a guaranteed _loss_, more interested in keeping their power structure intact (if damaged) than adapting to what it takes to win. Seems some GOPe would rather have Hillary win so they can maintain their symbiotic relationship; a Trump win could very well lose many of them jobs & power.
I think that, like his release of his healthcare plan a day or two ago, it's his attempt to say, "Hey! I'm still here!"

Things are getting interesting....the RNC needs to be curb-stomped
I cant imagine any scenario in which Cruz Reagan would be more acceptable to the GOPe than Trump Ford. Rush was saying yesterday that the GOPe is in a bind. They dont want Trump Ford, but they want runner-up Cruz Reagan even less....
If that happens, then it guarantees Hillary wins.
Not saying starting a new party and abandoning the GOP isn’t a good idea in some ways. Just saying, if it happens in 2016, and the GOP convention becomes a circus and collapses, with some going independent or 3rd party, Hillary wins the general election easily.
Any such plans have to look beyond 2016, is what I’m saying. Is there staying power on the part of various conservatives to build a new political party to compete in 2020 and beyond? That’s what I want to know.
Hey Ben,
I’m sure you can go to work for your big Pharma buddies.
On the other hand.....They don’t want you either!!!!
You played your hand.....and you got nothin’.
Another affirmative action disappointment.
Good for him calling out the leadership. I get a kick out of Trump, love him challenging media, but he is no conservative. However, if we is winning and Republican committee tries to circumvent they will end Republican party. At that point, the Republican party is a banana Republic or dictatorship. It will be the end of the party.
Good for him.
Yup. Me too. The only reason I'm still with this bunch of idiots is out of some hope to influence the primaries in my state (OK).
I fear this is a losing proposition.
If I want to be _really_ conspiratorial...
There’s a whole lotta M.E. money that could be interested in perpetuating Barry Hussain’s caliphate-facilitating legacy, perhaps promising Trump a very large check if he takes a very large fall, which is best done by a 3rd-party split (seeing as Hillary otherwise has nigh unto zero chance of winning). Seems completely nutty until you consider how many otherwise stable & powerful & entrusted people (ex.: Justice Roberts) have been acting...odd...for the last few years.
...but that’s way over the line of psychological stability. Where’s my coffee?
