Donald Trump's call on Monday for "a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States" is unlikely to blow up his campaign. No matter how outrageous his statement seems to most Americans, his supporters apparently eat up stuff like that.
Forty-six percent of Mr. Trump's backers say that their minds are made up and won't change before the primaries, according to a Dec. 2 Quinnipiac poll. Only 33% of Ted Cruz's supporters, and 23% of Marco Rubio's, say that they are sure of their choice.
Apparently no matter what Mr. Trump does, he continues to poll generally in the mid- to high-20s, with an occasional survey putting him in the 30s. In mid-August he dipped to 22% in the Real Clear Politics average, but he hasn't fallen below that mark since. This high floor, however, is matched by a low ceiling.
His antics-calling his GOP competitors "losers" and "clowns," insulting Sen. John McCain for having been captured in Vietnam, mocking a reporter with a disability, crudely attacking Fox News's Megyn Kelly-have made it difficult for him to grow his base.

Canceled my subscription. The WSJ has completely jumped the shark and can no longer be trusted to make an unbiased assessment of anything, political or financial.
As long as the dream is a nightmare I agree.
How this fat loser Karl Rover gets paid for this chit election cycle after election cycle never ceases to amaze me.
Rover is clueless about Trump’s poll numbers, which have risen substantially since Trump’s muslim comments.
As for McCain being captured, that was McCain’s fault.
He and his squadron mates were told to fly above the ceiling; McCain defied orders and flew under the ceiling.
He was shot down. His squadron mates obeyed orders and flew above the ceiling; they were NOT shot down.
As for the reporter with a disability, he is a moonbat political operative who once travelled to Alaska to harass Sarah Palin. Just because someone has a disability, that doesn’t automatically make them a good person.
Hmm let see.
Karl Rove managed a technical loss in 2000, a skin of the teeth win in 2004, was wrong in 2006, 2008 and 2012.
He was run over by the Tea Party in 2010 and 2014
So just why are we listening to a pundit with a 1 and 6 record?
Ditto
considering the author and without reading his article, I know this article is just BS establishment propaganda so I’m not going to waste my time. Puff boy needs to receive his comeuppance.
Trump is going to be the DNC’s and progressive’s worst nightmare.
If he wins. There is still a long way to go and as we just saw with the ridiculous frenzy over the temporary ban on Muslim immigration it will be him against the world. It will get even nastier.
However, I am encouraged due to the apparent public support for his stance on all immigration. Perhaps the “elites” are about to learn that the majority of Americans don’t have their head in the PC punchbowl.
Wonder if the kid is Shep Smiths...looks like he is due any day now.
WSJ has become a bit tiresome...
The 40% who are opposed will bow their heads and pay their Dhimmi tax.
Take a hike Karl. Nobody is buying what you’re selling anymore.
Has anyone performed a study to determine if the Trump supporters represent the income tax payers in the country? What would happen if they decided not to support the administration?
Nobody cares what you say Karl..go away
You know who the Dems’ dream nominee is? Any candidate stupid enough to have Rove as their consultant. He’ll blow $100 million with absolutely nothing to show for it.
How does this guy have any credibility at all. He’s just another toe sucker.
Get over yourself, Karl. The rest of us have.
Wait until the RATs lose 25%-30% of the black and Hispanic vote
to Trump. And Trump runs the table on White votes.
Sounds like the strongest Presidential coalition I’ve ever seen.
Nightmare? I'd be reassured that my subconscious is in step with my awake reality, and I'm not suffering from paranoia.
* Of defeat.
