Two âforeign speakingâ men set off alarms after they entered the local Walmart store in Lebanon, Missouri and purchased 60 cellphones. The purchase was made around 4 AM last Saturday morning. Police were called but released the men saying they didnât have a legal reason to detain them.

In MO a California accent or Maine accent will sound foreign.
...That's what I said...."REALLY" to.........
You need to relax a little. Not every person with an accent wants to kill you.
They let them go...
What crime did they commit?
We are not quite a police state yet. Although it sounds like that’s where FR wants to be.
Staying Private
The nature of the word "burner" suggests that such a device would be used for a short time and then discarded. For most people this isnât necessary or worth the cost, but the especially privacy-conscious might like the idea.
A burner phone does not require a Google account, GPS tracking your location,
You think...most American’s can’t differentiate between a Maine, New Yorker, Southern, Hispanic accent....from a Middle Eastern accent???
Because unusual activity should be reported. Period.
I had two guy's buy camp stoves from me on-line...with ME names...within weeks of each other..
Both from IL...and not far from each other.
I reported them to the F.B.I.
You should be aware yourself.....
The wiretap recording could be kinda short if they are using them as remote detonators for IEDs. BOOM
Really, you need to relax. It was a joke. Clearly you cannot discern sarcasm without a big sticky note on it.
Please don’t report me to the FBI.
Let them go - but make sure the FBI has all 60 numbers. Start tracking them, now. Build up that database of where the phones are when they are on, what phones are in proximity to them, what phones call them or are called by them... This is a chance for an intel bonanza. Though these guys are obviously pretty stupid / untrained. You don’t do something like this that will obviously attract attention. In that light, it may have been a simple test to gauge the reaction/response...
Did you think they were going to have a jihadi cookout? Maybe you should raise your prices if they cannot recite the Lord’s Prayer.
I've seen fellow FReeper's be the same.....
Fair enough...
The Lebanon County Sheriff is a real good guy. The good people around here like him. The criminals don’t.
Considering the Boston Marathon terrorist's used Pressure Cookers....
You can poke your fun...or be a jerk. I don't care.......
I did the right thing....and I don't think twice about it.
Or Breaking Bad
.
They use them to run phone scams
Yes indeed we covered this on the FR Threat Matrix thread. Glad to see the thread is still going strong and it's a great place to check for terrorist/terrorism related posts that we know we've seen "somewhere." It's a regular library of info. In this particular case, 60 cell phones purchased at 4:00 AM should be reason enough for putting a call in to the FBI.
Cell phones jury-rigged to detonate bombs
Snip: From Baghdad to Madrid, bombs triggered by mobile phones have become as ubiquitous in the terrorist's arsenal as cell phones in the pockets of businessmen. "It's not rocket science," says John Pike of Globalsecurity.org, a Washington think tank. "Cell-phone detonators are pretty straightforward tradecraft.â
Terrorists have long used cellular phones to trigger improvised explosive devices (IEDs) not only on Iraq roadsides, but also in attacks worldwideâ¦â¦.
You didn’t happen to buy a bunch of cell phones, did you? ;-)
I hope so. A few weeks after 9-11 the cops went to see about some muslims target shooting at a gravel pit. They let them go as it wasn't illegal.
BUT - they put lots of surveillance on them, etc. Turns out they (7 or 8) flew over to the ME and tried to get into Afghanistan to fight with the muslims. They were turned back. When they got home they were arrested.
