The ‘It’s Impractical Because They’ll Lie’ Objection to Trump’s Proposal Is Meritless
National Review ^ | 12-9-2015 | Andrew C. McCarthy

Denunciation abounds in the analysis of Donald Trump’s call for a temporary suspension of immigration into the United States by Muslims. As I argued in a column yesterday, I am against a categorical ban on Muslim immigration, but I believe Muslim immigrants should be examined about Islamic supremacism and that adherents to that counter-constitutional ideology should be denied admission. Consequently, I am hearing one of the same objections lodged against Trump’s sweeping proposal, namely: It is impractical because immigrants will lie about their religious affiliation. This contention borders on the frivolous. I was sorry to see Charles Krauthammer rely on it last night – even if it was fodder for a few much needed laughs as Dr. K evoked the “George Washington cherry-tree standard of not telling a lie to an infidel immigration officer,” and Chris Stirewalt quipped that maybe, as an assurance that they were not Muslims, would-be immigrants could be forced to eat a ham sandwich. Funny … but also suggestive of basic misconceptions about immigration law.

I agree.
But the whole question is moot.

The application process should start from the assumption that NO ONE who is not already a citizen is entitled to enter the USA, regardless of religion or affiliation.

We start with this premise, that the applicant has the burden of proof to prove to US citizens that he/she will be a good citizen or alien resident (or even tourist) of the USA and will faithfully follow all its laws. It is up to the applicant to persuade us to let them in. Let them do the work of persuasion.

The question should not be Are you a Muslim? The question should be Why should we allow you into our country?

If we do not start with this premise, what we have is virtually everyone on the entire planet is a de facto US citizen.

No other country on earth would submit themselves to this presumed entitlement. If there is one, let them do it first and let us see how it works out before we commit to it.

I saw that some Imam in TX agreed with Trump, but he said ban all of them from coming over, the only reason that the Muslims will lie and say they are Christians.

Of course you’re correct, but logic isn’t what gets support, feel good knee-jerk posting is. We’re all liberals now.

But then, why is Obama still living?

For the same reason that Huma Abedin was allowed by her family to marry a Jew.

You see, the whole thing is very flexible depending on your agenda and as long as such allowances support that agenda.

It’s not apostate for a Muslim to lie if the reason is to further Jihad. There are reports of Muslims seeking refugee status in Europe claiming to have converted to Christ so they won’t be denied refugee status.

Doesn’t Israel do a good job in screening?

Has Obama ever publicly denied that he is a Muslim?

Has he ever once in his life uttered the words “Jesus Christ is Lord”?

New entry test for the USA.

Applicants will be given the choice of either reciting from memory passages from the Torah, or eating a plate of bacon.

“But there’s no practical way to implement a “Ban on all Muslims”. It’s not like there’s a blood test for it.”

You’ve got no imagination.

Just ask them to draw a cartoon of Mohammed!

Would it matter if he did? Obviously I don’t think so since he lies all the time.

but, to deny being a Muslim is to become apostate.

Not if such a Muslim considers himself on a "jihad" and in the course of the jihad, if even lying about being a Muslim is necessary to continue the "holy war", then they wouldn't be committing the sin of apostasy. I think the term is "Taqqia" or something like that. "Justified lies".

This isn't Christianity we're talking about here.

The San Bernardino killer lied about her name, naming herself after a famous jihadist. No one caught it.

Muslims newly arrived in Germany are taking Christian instruction “because it will make it easier” to appear to assimilate.

The Koran allows for or encourages lying to the infidel; so there need be no guilty conscience.

I’m not sure what you’re trying to imply here about me but you’ve only proved my point whether you realize it or not.

“But the way reality actually works is that all pre-citizenship papers are contingent. That means for the given grace period, say 5-7 years, at any point you are found to have lied on the original application (ie reported going to a mosque, having groups of Muslim “friends” aka foot soldiers over, etc, then there are a series of events that would take place to revoke whatever permit one may posses.”

So now, under what you’ve outlined above, we’ve moved from stopping all Muslims at the border to, apparently, eventually catching the ones who lied about their religion (in other words the ones who are probably TERRORISTS) “5-7 years” later.

Way to go. And who’s the troll again?
