(CNN) âDonald Trump has done it again.
Less than 24 hours after President Barack Obama aimed to set the tone for the country on a response to the threat of terrorism with an Oval Office address, Trump only needed a press release to cause an uproar with his call for an outright ban on Muslims entering the United States.
The billionaire businessman stood defiantly by his statement on Tuesday morning, when he warned that failing to follow his plans would lead to another September 11-style terror attack on U.S. soil.
"You're going to have many more World Trade Centers if you don't solve it -- many, many more and probably beyond the World Trade Center," Trump told CNN's Chris Cuomo in a contentious interview on "New Day."
The episode is a microcosm of how the 2016 campaign has played out. Trump has consistently forced candidates, state party chairs, senators and conservative pundits to respond to his actions and quotes, however outlandish and improbable. And in turn, they have all struggled with the question of how to deal with the bombastic real estate tycoon who has dominated state and national polls since the summer.
Trump's enduring ability to frame the terms of the debate for the GOP continues to have party leaders fretting he will drive voters to Hillary Clinton, help down-ballot Democrats and cause long-term damage to the Republican brand.

This is the most brilliant political move I have seen in my lifetime.
The man is a force of nature. He has captured the sentiments of a vast majority of white America, at least. He will bring in minorities too with this Pro American message.
All their supporters can band together behind one of their weakling, milquetoast candidates and they might hit 20%.
The GOPe was already united against Trump.
It’s the people that are united FOR Trump.
I am sure CNN hopes so.
In their dreams.
I’m still voting Cruz, but all these people do is make me respect Trump.
Oh really? They have been united against Trump since he entered, idiots.
And we the people are united against the GOPe.
They choose murdering heathens over their own people.
United against Trump? Hasn’t worked so far.
As long as Cruz doesn’t side with the GOPe, it really doesn’t matter much what the GOPe does. While Trump has maintained his lead on the GOP field, Cruz has slowly risen above most everyone else. The two of them together should have enough delegates to lock out any GOPe candidate. This makes the assumption that Trump and Cruz would back the other should it become necessary.
One would've thought the Tsarnov brothers blowing up the Boston Marathon finish line would've been the turn around point. Leadership in the US is delusional, and they're going to bring us down the same path to destruction that France and Belgium have travelled.
Our only chance is that this ganging up on Mr. Trump backfires, and he has such a great lead that the nomination can't be stolen from him.
Did the article REALLY say this?
“Trump’s enduring ability to frame the terms of the debate for the GOP continues to have party leaders fretting he will drive voters to Hillary Clinton, help down-ballot Democrats and cause long-term damage to the Republican brand.”
I know I didn’t just read that. They are “fretting” over driving voters to Hillary? Hell, instead of Trump, that is what they WANT. They are scared out of their collective minds because a Trump or Cruz presidency will completely destroy their little cartel. That statement above simply amazes me.
I believe the GOP is fearful of Trump. The GOP is loaded with RINOs and will fight to get a RINO elected. Trump will clean the GOPs clock and they know it. America is so far in the toilet, even with Trump President, it will take years to convert to that Constitutional America many of us old timers hoped it would be.
The difference between Trump and these other guys is that Trump doesn’t need a job from the powers-that-be once he leaves office. So Trump can say out loud what the other candidates can only think.
1. You don’t win wars with half measures.
2. You ban them all and gradually re-admit as we become capable of managing the risk.
3. It’s Trump / people against the Uniparty. Not just the GOP.
Is there any sign that Hillary’s support is growing due to what Trump is saying? No, I didn’t think so.
“President Barack Obama aimed to set the tone “
What you aim at and what you hit don’t always coincide.
Obama’s embrace of dhimmitude is not the “tone” reflected by Americans at large.
Take note, all down ballot candidates, from city mayor to US Senator. Those who oppose Trump and his policies will likely lose. Those who walk his walk, talk his talk will likely win.
The media is salivating over the Muslim comments & giddy with excitement that this is finally going to sink Trump. Not going to happen!
Wait until they see his numbers go even higher..
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH — just when the media thinks it has perfected the art of electing the president before the American people even have a chance at the nomination process, along comes the most media-savvy candidate in American history to blow their smug complacency away. The masks are falling right, left and center.
The fact that the GOPe is loaded with appeasers doesn’t explain their targeting Trump very well. Even if they take him down, Cruz, Carson, and Carly are all outsiders. It’s beginning to look like a circular firing squad.
