GOP presidential contender Ted Cruz said Tuesday that he disagrees with rival Donald J. Trump's plan to ban Muslims from coming into the United States until the federal government can ensure that those coming into the nation do not pose a threat to the country.
"I do not agree with his proposal," the Texas senator said at a press conference on Capitol Hill. âI do not think it is the right solution.â
Mr. Cruz said that some have encouraged him to criticize Mr. Trump, but said he will not to so. Instead, he said he is pushing solutions aimed at putting a three year moratorium on refugees from Syria and Iraq, and giving governors more power to stop refugees from being resettled in their states.
Mr. Trump has tangled with most of the candidates in the GOP field ..with the exception of Mr. Cruz .. though he warned at a rally in South Carolina that he will respond in kind if Mr. Cruz attacks him.

Trump just moved into first place with me - I was a big Cruz supporter. Without a country, other issues pale in comparison.
“Syria and Iraq? The latest murdering terrorist came from Saudi Arabia via Pakistan.”
Exactly. Also fake Greek passports are easy to get with a little cash.
Trump has the conservative approach. Cruz takes the squishy liberal one...No surprise to me.
I think Obama is a stooge. He would go away for the right amount of money.
..bomb throwing rhetoric stirs people up for sure. Cruz is taking a calmer approach in public statements. At the end of the day, I would bet my life that DT and Cruz would implement essentially the same policies re national security—which would help stop another San Bernardino. I know somebody who was there—I think she might agree...
THis may be the end for Cruz. Trump is right. If a people are at war with you it makes no sense at all to let them walk in the front door any time they feel like it.
The day after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Roosevelt suspended naturalization proceedings for Italian, German, and Japanese immigrants, required them to register, restricted their mobility, and prohibited them from owning items that might be used for sabotage, such as cameras and shortwave radios. The curfews on Italian immigrants were lifted in October 1942, on Columbus Day.
“You lost me, Ted. The Syrian refugees go to the EU and get their passports so they donât come from Syria or Iraq on paper.”
Yes, you are absolutely correct.
The only passports I know about (I live in Germany) are the fake ones they pick up in Turkey. They’ve been selling fake Syrian passports to everyone else since Germany said that was the only group which will get the 99-percent approval status on the immigration visa into Germany. I’ve noticed lately....some fake Greek passports being sold to people trying to make into Mexico or South American countries.
You would? Cruz could have done better here. What are these baby steps that give rogue governors in libbie states power to pollute the land with rabid “refugees”?
I trust God, rather, through the prayer and devotion and worship of those of the people who still believe or are being warned back to God by the appearance of evil in the world, to sort the situation out. And it looks like Trump is getting raised up to a role he never envisioned when he set out. But that doesn’t matter if God envisioned it.
Do we see Saudi Arabia openly embracing Christians immigrating over there? No.
Cruz is just not a leader. He’s a good follower, and he has many good points, but he’s not a leader.
He should have gone with Rafe Cruz.
Sounds much more daring.
And he could use a bit of that.
;)
I agree with Cruz. 1) Trump’s plan doesn’t have a chance, he knows it, he’s just throwing out red meat. 2) Trump will walk this back in the next few days when Dubai threatens to close his golf courses and the sheiks boycott his hotels, condos, and casinos. 3) I have worked with many Muslims over the years. None of them have, nor will they ever commit terrorism. The university I study/work at benefits from them because they generate new knowledge, publish papers, and work hard. Most of the American students are...dilettantes by comparison.
Our problem is not the Muslims I study with, it’s the Muslims who openly and actively support terrorists. Every one of these domestic Muslim terrorists should have been deported, imprisoned, or monitored long before they killed anyone. Of course we should be more selective and nobody should be allowed to come here and go on welfare.
Such as this goof?
Charlie Baker: Donald Trump's stance 'completely inappropriate'
Brilliant plan, Ted. /s
Like anybody who can’t self-fund his own election, Cruz is going to be compromised by his donors, as he likely is in this case.
I’m convinced he’s a rock-ribbed conservative. I’m also convinced he has to operate under rules Trump doesn’t.
Trump is taking the arrows for Cruz and knows it. I also think Cruz knows Trump will back him, if he can, if Trump has to leave the race, or is forced from the race.
At this point, I believe Trump will be forced from the race.
Trump will continue to say things Cruz can’t until Cruz doesn’t have a choice and has to say them himself.
Trump is the candidate, if Trump can make it in one piece to the convention.
Cruz blinks, hoping that Trump has went too far. Trump has not gone too far. Epic strategic fail.
I am very disappointed in Cruz on this. We are balanced on the edge of total anarchy. We must do tough things now. The powers that be have no idea how totally incensed many people are. One more attack and the gloves may well come off. People are not buying all the guns and ammo to go skeet shooting.
The devil is in the details. Of course even the corrupt controlling in D.C. fully understand this.
Cruz is wrong here.
