Donald Trump's proposal to ban all Muslim immigration into the US, including that of tourists, was met with an immediate and massive backlash from across the political spectrum.
Republican presidential candidates moved quickly to condemn their party's frontrunner, with Jeb Bush describing Trump as "unhinged" and Lindsey Graham calling on everyone seeking the presidency to denounce the plan.
"Donald Trump today took xenophobia and religious bigotry to a new level," Graham told the Guardian in an interview shortly after Trump unveiled his proposal.
"His comments are hurting the war effort and putting our diplomats and soldiers serving in the Middle East at risk. The way to win this war is to reach to the vast majority of people in Islamic faith who reject Isil and provide them the capability to resist this ideology."
Bush, the former Florida governor, responded on Twitter: Donald Trump is unhinged. His "policy" proposals are not serious.

New Jersey governor Chris Christie said Trump's comments reflected "a ridiculous position and one that won’t even be productive".
"We do not need to resort to that type of activity nor should we," Christie told conservative radio show host Matt Medved. . (snip)

Furthermore, Cruz doesn’t have much of a track record in leading others to support his bills.

Trump essentially opened a gate for anyone who wanted to be free of the PC which has penned in the country.

The USA should not only not allow any Moslems to enter, we should declare Islam a terrorist organization, make it illegal to be a Moslem in America, deport EVERY Moslem living here (unless they renounce Islam in favor of another belief system), and destroy EVERY Mosque in America!
The US Constitution is not a suicide pact — we cannot and must not allow our sworn enemies to use it to destroy America!

I just think you’re looking at it wrong is all, but that’s not such a big thing either.
Not a single thing to be gained by admitting Muslims. But many lives can be lost by admitting them and people terrorized. Trump is saying what many support but are afraid to express.

Cruz is my man but the main difference here is he had the advantage of playing second.
Anyway there are several bills in congress to address Muslim entry from other countries. For instance Muslims from many countries can come here for 90 days without even a visa. Like the Paris terrorists from Belgium.
So a moratorium on all is a reasoned and sensible proposal.
Trump is right but he knows he will never achieve this short of executive ordering it.
He’s just establishing a strong position to negotiate from. Smart guy.
