I’m not usually big on collective punishment, but they want to take out MY family...
The thing is, I’m not sure it’s a deterrent for the worst of these crazies. What kind of family life could they have had to become organized mass murderers? It’s not just business, like it was in the Mafia. It’s not unheard of for religion to outrank family in the minds of the psychotically zealous.
Collective punishment works.
There is a story that comes from the Gotti world.
“We Italians will kill you,” a John Gotti associate once warned a potential snitch over a government wire. “But the Russians are crazy—they’ll kill your whole family.”
