Kyri Viehman came out of the Michael's Craft store after buying Christmas decorations in Fenton, Missouri, to find a $100 bill tucked under her windshield wiper blade. Unfortunately for her, the bill was a fake and part of a scam to lure potential victims out of their cars to rob them.
In the case of Viehman, it wasn't until after a few minutes of driving down the road that she did what most people would do: get out of the car and focus on not letting that $100 bill blow away.
A note on the fake bill said:
"Ha you thought this was real didn't you?"
After researching on the Internet, she found that this was a common tactic for criminals. They plant the fake bill on a car, wait in the car next to that car, and hope that someone gets out of the car when they return from shopping.
At that point the criminal will rob the unsuspecting and distracted shopper, sometimes with a child to further distract them, and the criminal is gone without having to lure a victim out of the car or worry about giving a victim time to prepare against a mugging.
Viehman had her son in the car.
She posted a picture and her story on her Facebook account to give people a heads-up this Christmas shopping season. Protecting yourself against theft takes many forms, of course, but Viehman is calling on shoppers to be careful about their surroundings and always think about safety, even in what they may consider a safe place.

I remember Goldblatt’s. My mom used to work there.
Yes, it was Costco of the 1960’s.
I'm throwing the BS flag on this. The same person must write all of the scam and robbery warnings on garbage e-mails that your well-meaning grandparents send you because they all read the same, including this one. If a criminal wants to rob you in a parking lot, he/she is not going to be this sophisticated. Buying a printer and paper to print this stuff takes away from their crack/meth/heroin money.
You would think someone else would steal the fake $100 bill before the targeted victim got back to their car.
This story comes out every year. Bogus.
Oh come now. No one would believe that.
Thought it was cars driving at night with no headlights? I never flash lights at them.
I scrolled down to see what other stories were linked. This one is an obvious garbage headline from a garbage website. The big flag is the screaming caps in links telling you “SPREAD THIS STORY EVERYWHERE YOU CAN!!!” and “MEDIA IS DOING NOTHING, WE GOTTA KEEP THIS STORY GOING!!”
Around here if somebody flashes their lights, they are warning you that they just made it through a herd of elk or cattle on the highway.
Oh, they’ll kill you, too. And don’t even get me started on the gang members that will knock out their own tail lights to make you try to warn them or make you crash into them.

Never, ever inject logic into an urban legend.
Reminds me of the waking up in the hotel bathtub full of ice with one less kidney story that made the rounds on fax machines in the 90’s.
Car drivers in South Africa are being offered a new method of preventing hijacking.
The BBC's Jeremy Vine witnesses a demonstration of the "blaster" A blaster, flame-thrower operated by a foot pedal inside the car, blasts a jet of fire at a would-be hijacker.
A person confronted by an armed hijacker simply presses a pedal and the "blaster" ignites gas that shoots from the under-side of the car.
Also available with propane.
They can also put an empty can of coke or something on your back tire inside your wheel well where you cannot see it; when you back up, it falls with a sound. You hear it, get out...
WOW you must be living in the real countryside! Are you allowed to take the accidentally killed animal home? If you have big dogs at home, they would be very happy campers.
TSA says, If you SEE a hundred dollar bill, BUY something.
That’s kind of like a gang ;)
Up here it means look out ahead for our big 4 legged furry friends on the road!
Most likely this is a hoax, and one that’s been around for years:
