D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier is an outspoken proponent of gun control (in a district which already has some of the strictest gun laws in the nation). So, when asked by 60 Minutes how people should respond to being near an active gunman, Lanier's response was bemusing as The Washington Times reports, saying that the "best option for saving lives before police can get there†would be for citizens to try to subdue, or even kill, the gunman.

This is America. We live where we choose to live.
When I was in the Navy, I was stationed in Connecticut. It was a beautiful place and full of nice people and I really liked it there. But, I had moved there from Idaho where I built up a nice little gun collection.
To keep my handguns, I had to have a permit signed by the Sheriff—who would not sign a permit for anyone in the Navy. So I had to take the guns to my parents who held them for me for 3 years.
When I got out of the Navy, I was recruited by Electric Boat and I turned them down because I would not live in a state where I had to kiss some politician’s butt to own a handgun.
I took a job in SC that paid considerably less than EB, but you have to weigh all the costs and not just the size of the paycheck.
I have no pity for the people of any place that won’t allow them to have handguns. They choose to live there and they vote for the politicians who make the laws.

Neither the sheriff nor the legislature have the authority to even consider requiring you to have a "permit" to own any type of gun.
This is America. We have a Constitution limiting the power, size, and scope of government. We need to get back to it, instead of letting petty tyrants run amok.

No what I repeatedly said and without using any profanity was that CCW is meant for the protection of the carrier not the public at large which is simply, well true.
Private citizens are not the police or the military and they are not for the most part trained to go up agains’t superior firepower and live to tell about it. Private citizens carry weapons in case they are confronted by an assailant and need to defend themselves.
I also said that trying to use handguns to fight terrorists with AK’s was a losing proposition and I would not do it except for covering fire as I left the area in a hurry
I even used the example of the marine recruiting office that was attacked by one lone assailant with a tactical weapon. One or more trained military personnel who had unauthorized personal handguns were not able to defend themselves or takedown the assailant and they were killed. You or I would have even less chance.
I own and shoot an AK74 and I’m trying to imagine a scenario where me and Mr. GG2 with his AR15 are strolling down terrorist lane and all holy heckoli breaks out. Then maybe we would make a fight out of it but in Gwinnett County, GA they just haven’t gotten that loosey goosey. Its really kind of frowned on even if legal.

For example, no one is denying the superiority of a frigging battle rifle over a handgun. That was only an issue in your fantasy. The ISSUE, is the moral imperative to fight back against a terrorist who is walking around shooting unarmed people, like was done in France. If you notice the photos of that scene, many cops there were armed only with pistols. The difference is that they were on the attack. What you mocked - the very idea of looking at others as your own family - they lived. They were willing to fight and die, if necessary, against these barbaric monsters because what they lived for, because that's what they believed in. You, as you've said many times, are not willing to live or fight for such a reason. I get that - loud and clear. Just don't think everyone agrees with you. And when you find someone who disagrees with you, don't call them a coward who will cry for their mommy, or they're liable to reply by calling you a stinking, foul-mouthed bitch. And I don't play video games either, little girl.
And one more thing. 1400 years of totally consistent Muslim history has shown that if people like you don't come out from behind your walls in an emergency, and don't look at others as family, then eventually your heads will end up rolling in the dirt, too. Everyone's got to decide when they will suck it up and fight, to the death if necessary. Some bastard walking around shooting unarmed people is my threshold. I hope you and your warrior husband wake up and find your threshold somewhere safe in your comfy zones before the sword hits your necks.

I don’t think you understand the purpose of concealed carry so there is no point in trying to discuss it rationally with you. I will fight back with my handgun if a terrorist or anybody else pops up in my face and tries to kill me. If I get lucky and drop that first guy I’m gone. So will almost everyone else. End of story.
