“Gov. Susana Martinez of NM for VP”

Ok, I’ve seen this before and have asked before, but I’ll ask again...why? I’m not from NM and admittedly, don’t know much about her other than her name being floated previously. Why would she be a good VP (they’re a heartbeat away from the Presidency)? What has she accomplished? What battles has she won? Or are we just checking boxes (female, Latino, etc.)? I’m not saying she isn’t a good governor, she may be the best one out there, but we don’t need boxes checked, we need dooers that will get things done and turn this ship around. It’s not going to happen in four years, it will take a generation, but it’s got to start soon...real soon.

Susana does not have any future political aspirations as she has said many times. She is not of the same mold as Sarah Palin, though they are friends. Though she is against illegal immigration, she is also not supportive of all Trump’s immigration solutions. As far as success in NM goes, she has fought from day one to repeal driver’s licenses for illegals* but has been stymied by Democrats in the legislature. Otherwise she’s had a couple of good revenue years up to now with increasing oil and gas revenues (1/3 of the state budget), but it will be rough now that crude prices are in the tank. One other thing she has done is bring some integrity to the Governor’s office after the corruption of Bill Richardson (the Rats are now trying to say her chief of staff has done some financial wrongs, but this will be a non-starter).
* The driver’s license issue is coming to a head as of mid-January New Mexicans will need another government-issued photo ID (usually a passport) to enter federal facilities and later in 2016, they will need same to fly on commercial airlines.
