Oscar W. Koch (1897-1970) served in World War I, World War II, and Korea, and became a brigadier general. He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery. He was born in Milwaukee. See "Find A Grave."

I don't know if he was related to the notorious Koch Brothers (but it's not likely...Koch is a pretty common German name).

He was Patton's G2 and predicted almost to the very hour the time and place of Hitler's Ardennes offensive. Patton pulled two armor and one infantry divisions out of the line two days prior to the attack. When Ike asked him how long it would take him to wheel 90 degrees and attack to the north Patton's reply that he could do it that same day, was met with skepticism. Patton once remarked, "I ought to know what I'm doing, I have the best damned intelligence officer in any United States command."

Koch did not have information not available to other commands, he just used it more effectively. These sniveling careerists and time servers (and I am not sure who is responsible) should hang their heads in shame.

One of the many "analysts" used in fascist propaganda to defame real service members and direct more political influence to pork-fed, anti-defense civilian interests:

“the metrics to measure progress changed. They were modified to use measures such as the number of sorties and body counts - a metric not used since the Vietnam War - to paint a more positive picture.”

When the numbers don’t say what you want them to say, find other numbers that do. Or, to borrow a quote, torture statistics long enough and they’ll say anything.

“Could it be that the WH was weeding out the generals and admirals that were loyal to the truth rather than Obama? “

Could it be? This is near certainty!

President Trump could recall those generals back to active duty when Obama is gone.

“Who precisely wanted the books cooked to suggest things were going well is the key question, which this story doesn’t answer.”

Well, then I guess there’s no reason reading any further.

Especially if:

“I thought we already knew this, or at least knew the basics of it”.

“Who€™d have ever imagined our military brass would be so complicit to a regime?”

I have the greatest respect for our military, and for the commitment those who put their lives on the line for our children, for us, and for what we believe. That said, I also have no doubt that the military, like every other human institution, has a problem with positions of power being obtained by those who are political and self-serving rather than effective and self-sacrificing. I don't know the military like so many here do, but as a general principle it doesn't surprise me at all that there would be military ‘brass’ who put career ahead of integrity. I'm very open to being told I'm wrong, and I hope I am.

Dude most officers go through ROTC. This is done at COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES. While they also finish bachelor’s degrees. So they are indoctrinated.

95% of all of the officers in military are liberal idiots and have been for decades now.

Could it be that the WH was weeding out the generals and admirals that were loyal to the truth rather than Obama? ..................................... We’ll have to wait for Jan 2017 to see if all the good ones will be talked into returning.

95% of all of the officers in military are liberal idiots ................................ Really? Funny most of my officer friends are Conservative Republicans. Not me, I’m an Independent that sways right, and an OCS made officer. My co graduates from college ROTC weren’t the liberal types. I would check your references. For safety sake, if I were you I wouldn’t discuss that with any USMC officer.

Your comment is entirely without merit. I spent almost 32 years in both the active Army and the National Guard. Officer political views run the gamut, but most tend to be conservative.

The one almost universal view is that the armed forces, in particular the officer corps, must not involve itself in any way, shape or form in domestic politics. This is not only built into the political system, but into law and customs. The lessons of Oliver Cromwell and views of George Washington are deeply ingrained into our military and political institutional DNA. It is also why I waited till I started my transition to retirement to join FR.

As for how the current force views the current administration; per the below link, last December he got a whopping 15% approval rating.

I have some experience, indirectly, with the USCENTCOM staff. Rumor control is that what happened is that the word came from on high that bad news simply would not be accepted, and since intell assessments are a fuzzy business at best, analysis was cherry picked to support the administrations views.

Personally, I think the Intelligence Community decided that “hey, you only want good news? Ok, fine. Here you go, don’t come bitching to us when you get embarrassed.” Hence we get confident assessments that Daesh/ISIL has been “contained” and the President gets egg on his face when they slaughter civilians that evening.
