Ted Cruz's moment has arrived.
Less than 10 weeks before Iowa voters their cast the first votes of the presidential campaign season in Feb. 1 caucuses, a new Quinnipiac poll shows the Texas senator statistically tied with Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump for the lead in the state. Perhaps not so coincidentally, Cruz is tentatively beginning to take on the brash New York billionaire after months of cozying up.
Twice in recent days, the Texan has seized opportunities to distance himself from Trump's policies and rhetoric. First, Cruz disagreed with Trump after the New Yorker expressed openness to setting up a registry of Muslim Americans in the wake of the Paris terrorist attacks. "I'm a big fan of Donald Trump's but I'm not a fan of government registries of American citizens," Cruz told reporters in Iowa, according to Politico. "The First Amendment protects religious liberty, I've spent the past several decades defending religious liberty."
Then over the weekend, he politely chided inflammatory rhetoric from fellow Republicans on immigration, when asked about Trump during an interview with the Associated Press. "Tone matters," Cruz said. "Are there some in the Republican Party whose rhetoric is unhelpful with regard to immigration? Yes." Cruz's campaign said to expect more distinctions to come.

Ted Cruz never tried to seize your house for his own personal gain through eminent domain.
Good question. Who knows? Maybe he has seen the light? Maybe he is someone who wants to be at the power center and never approved of them?
I think the gopE would probably rather have Trump than Cruz. Every senator in the senate hates him.
Hmmm.
I’m a little leery of the media saying that anyone said anything.
What the media seems to do these days is say something and then accuse someone else of saying what the media itself said.
Basically manufacturing stories designed to push readers in a certain direction.
I think I’ma hold off on any story in which the media says someone said...
They aren’t worth of my trust at all any longer.
I will tell you about Mr.Robert Mercer. He is an American computer scientist and co-CEO of Renaissance Technologies, a hedge fund on Wall Street. You know, one of the guys Trump intends on raising their taxes.
Mercer grew up in New Mexico and holds a bachelor’s degree in physics and mathematics from the University of New Mexico. He later received a Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Illinois. In June 2014 he received the Association for Computational Linguistics Lifetime Achievement Award. As of 2014, Renaissance manages $25 billion.
He is a financial backer for the Ted Cruz âKeep the Promiseâ (KtP 1, KtP2 and KtP3) Super-PACs. Mercer is also the financial backing behind the Breitbart Media Group and Cambridge Analytica (I believe they do polling).
Mercer has a lot of money, media savvy, and he represents the power of Wall Street financiers, the Elite, who do not like Trump or middle-class Americans, you know, the vulgarians. And these Elite are financing Sen.Ted Cruz.
I read a recent article on Conservative Treehouse that revealed a lot about Cruz. I guess what struck me the most was when they mentioned that others that went to school with Cruz viewed him as having a remarkable ability to take the opposing point of view and argue it so effectively and so convincingly that they were just astounded. After reading that, I got this visual of Rove orchestrating the whole thing, like a chess game, where each candidate supposedly represents differing views, but really, they are all RINO’s, with some just pretending to be conservatives. In Rove’s mind, this way no matter who wins, Rove and the RINO’s win. So much Rovian plotting makes me wonder who, if any of them, is for real. Are any of them really for the American people, or are they all just feeding the political infrastructure at our expense. Who really knows?
Sahil Kapur,
Eat me.
I’m inclined to agree with you.
How many whoppers has MSM told just in the last 24 hours?
I’m a Trump supporter. I’m not going to have a hissy fit over some MSM manufactured BS.
Cruzers, Trumpsters and other assorted vulgarians: remember MSM hates ALL of us and would love to see us eat each other.
Not every Senator. He and Mike Lee are pretty chummy. And he’s had many fine discussion with Sessions.
Carver Media Group as seen in “Tomorrow Never Dies”
Rod, your attack on Trump is thin. He won his arguments via the law.
He knows this. So did Walt Disney.
Might as well throw Minnie Mouse under the bus.
Yahoo and everybody else in the media would love for Trump and Cruz to take each other out.
Sadly, people here are all too ready to take that bait.
But will they stand on the floor with him...beside him...and call the rest liars? In other words, are they best friends. If they are, even so, two ain’t very many.
It does not guarantee any such thing. TPA was a continuation, or extension, of existing policy.
I can see it now. Cruz decked out in war paint paddling onto the beaches of Normandy, on a surf board, holding a knife between his teeth. He stands up and says to reporters, "Tone matters," then jogs off to the next rally.
Fail! You did not hear Ted Cruz respond to the question about registering Muslims.
I did.
Sad that people here of all places fall for the press spin.
Who put you in here to trash Cruz?
That blasted “TONE” crap again?
Really Ted?
And outright LYING about whom Trump wants on a registry ( the influx of supposed “Syrians” ! ) who are NOT “American citizens”, is problematic for Ted !

Well said. i agree.
