Protesters took to the streets in the wake of the release of dash cam footage showing police shooting a teen being shot by police, chanting "16 shots" for the number of times the officer allegedly shot him.
The dash cam video, released by police today a day ahead of a court-ordered deadline, shows officers confronting 17-year-old Laquan McDonald, who later died at a hospital, as he walked down the street on Oct. 20, 2014.
Chicago police officials said they were responding to a report of a person walking down the street with a knife and that McDonald refused to drop the knife when ordered.
The video shows puffs of smoke coming from the ground at some points, which court documents said were caused by bullets.
A prosecutor at Officer Jason Van Dyke's hearing said that McDonald did not step towards the officer, but the officer allegedly took at least one step towards him.
Van Dyke was charged with first degree murder and stripped of his pay and policing powers, police officials said today. He was held without bond.
"It's certainly everyone's right to make a judgment about it but I would just state that the judgment made by individuals who have viewed this tape from the comfort of their living room, on their sofa ... it's not the same," Van Dyke's lawyer, Dan Herbert said.

Lots of groups out of control these days:
Blacks
Cops
Criminals
Mozlums
Politicians
The Press
Illegal aliens
One group that is under strict control though is the American taxpayer.
Weez just gots to pay.
“Agreed. I’m guessing (hoping) that the folks who reflexively posted pro-cop on this thread will have second thoughts after watching the video.”
From my perspective anyone who is pro-cop without any regard to the actual circumstances is part of the problem we have in having a decent civilan police force. They seem to be of the opinion that 1. Cops can do no wrong. 2. If the do do something wrong, well the dead guy somehow deserved it. You see this kind stuff with the $hit kickers from Whacko who, because they don’t like bikers, think that it’s o.k. to indiscriminenty kill them “for the good of society.”
I used to spend a good deal of time with our town’s first Chief of Police since he had married a family friend, but it became obvious to me that he would mindlessly defend anything that cops did no matter how unlawful it was up to and including saying that another local department’s shooting to death a resident (whom a friend had asked for the cops to check on her because she was in a disturbed condition). She was a 90# Asian woman who felt threatened and she picked up a knife in her kitchen when the cops arrived and they shot her to death.
So much to say, if you give most cops an excuse to shoot you, they will, and they will get away with it 99% of the time. At a time when we vitally need good law enforcement, what we get falls woefully short.
Wouldn't be surprised by this at all.
“Laquan â Afro-American for âWhy should I name my child a normal âwhitesoundingâ name like Jason or Markâ”
So in your inordinately undersized brain, an unusual name marks a kid to be shot down? Looks like you stayed in Connecticut too long. People there tend to think like you do! I know I had a cousin who lived there for 30 years. Taught at the university. He was kinda like you.

.........................................................
Coming to that conclusion based on the posters comment clearly points to you as the one with the undersized brain. (nothing personal mind you, not allowed here on FR)
He was a PCP user with a life time of criminal behavior. A rabid dog is what he was.
You’re absolutely right, I should not have said that!
...I didn’t have to repeat the ‘brain’ wisecrack either.
Take care.
I feel bad for cops these days....they are so hyped up and under the “gun” so to speak and every decision is filmed....
why not stun guns...why not bean bags?....why not throw a lasso around him like they did in the old days?....
The I can say to Mayor Rahm.. "Gee, sorry about your luck mayor" /s
I forgot, remind me which party runs Chicago again?
Seriously, 16 rounds is some kind of roid rage.
Too much T can make a guy totally crazy... sounds like this may be what happened here.....
No one should ever take androgens to muscle up...too dangerous...too mind-bending.
I think it is a reaction to not having a better 100% way to handle this type of incident.
Yep. I think Deadfish made sure that this would erupt...hoping to hurt Republicans with the Black vote. Many blacks were considering voting for Trump over Hillary. The Blacks no longer think terrorism is the number one issue. “Never let a crisis go to waste”—Rahm Emanuel.
There is a formal name for this tactic, as devised by the acolytes of Bath House. Do an internet search on the terms "stray voltage" together with "Plouffe".
Basically, the strategy is to deflect and divert attention away from issues hazardous to the political health of Bath House to some other lurid, controversial issue, thus starving the first issue of publicity.
hard to believe we never read about one shot to the leg and suspect went down.
Way fewer than used to. I can remember when these out of control cops stories first starting hitting the wires. We who protested, tried to look at each incident with a neutral eye, were in the minority. Reflexive defense of the cops was the norm.
It is sad this us against them mentality. They should be for the people. not against them. While i understand how this mentality can come about thats simply not a good excuse for slaughtering a human whenever the mood strikes.
lethal shooting, not even disabling.
