I tend to educate people, and they don’t like that. People accuse me of thinking that I’m the smartest man in the room. Usually, I am.

I run into that problem also. It comes with the territory of getting the PhD. I’d rather at some point have friends more than I want to win arguments. I’m also not interested in ruining everyone’s day. Thus, I just say very little and leave early.
Oddly the only exception is British my Son-in-Law who is a Jeremy Corbin supporting member of the British Labour party. He actually enjoys the repartee and we can talk politics with each other.
