Turkey was never at risk. They did this because of Russia siding with Assad. That is an offensive move no matter how much they try to hide behind technical air space borders. Obama said exactly that. He said that was the reason. The air space issue is just a way to try and make the move look defensive, thereby obligating NATO to back them up.

Collective support is the obligation. Barry will send some of his White House beer. The new Trudeau up north will do the same. I don't see much happening. Best Ergodan can look forward to is dining with infidels.

Only is this wrong is right paradigm that the radical left has ushered in is an attack considered defensive. Turkey attacked the plane. The plane did not attack Turkey. Ethnics Turks riddled the pilots, the pilots killed no Turks that day. Facts hurt. NATO should offer condolences and apologies to Russia for one of its members acting belligerent. Fine Turkey to make Russia whole. Then immediately suspend Turkey's membership pending a review and probationary sentence. Any further conflicts or detrimental actions on behalf of parties hostile to NATO provide grounds for permanent expulsion.

All I know is that Russia is pushing pretty hard and in every direction. This thing with Turkey could have easily happened in Sweden, Finland, South Korea, Japan, Canada, the USA (especially on the West Coast), the Baltics, Poland, the UK, and etc. All of these countries have had encounters with Russian aircraft this past year and some of them have had incursions into their airspace.

Turkey just managed to be the first to shoot down a Russian aircraft. I would not have been surprised if it had been any of the other countries I mentioned. As a matter of fact, after this I expect it will be another one of the other countries I mentioned. The collective patience of the Western nations with Russian aggression is wearing thin and the ability of the Obama Administration to reign in our NATO partners is waning, too.

The simple solution here is for the Russians to avoid Turkish airspace after this. That’s pretty reasonable, don’t you think?
