Hi, folks. Full disclosure. GSM31 is my 13-year-old son, who wishes to emulate his dad. He speaks two languages, Hebrew and English, but is only a good speller in one, and it isn’t English, which is taught as a second language here, although it’s his first. He’s been living in Israel since age six, and as a consequence, he has trouble with the alogical English written language.
I ask of you a personal favor, that in consideration of his age, you don’t be too rough with him. He can gain a lot from this forum, not least of which is a thick skin, and the ability to think for and inform himself, and hold his own in debate, for all of which freep is ideal. But let’s break him in gently, ok?
That is a fair statement.
Give him all the room in the world.
Freepers have ill respect for adults that mock us and we cannot tell for some time.
God Speed.
Mystery over. Welcome aboard, GSM31.
OK. I still recommend Webster’s and Strunk and White. But, Welcome! My kids joined when they were quite young, too. And, they turned out well. All solid citizens and all, most importantly, walking with God. And, they can discuss things cogently with my liberal sister and brother-in-law.
FreeRepublic helped with that.
This is a VK List stand-down alert.
Eleutheria5 has confirmed this new poster is their son. Read Post #137 for the full disclosure.
GSM31, on behalf of us all, Welcome to FreeRepublic!
Tell him sorry that we shoot first and ask questions later.
Welcome to Free Republic, gsm31! Your Dad will explain the “are you logged in” and “did a moose bite your sister” comments.... (historical lore of FR). Don’t worry too much about us “oldsters”.... we can get snappy/sarcastic at the drop of a dime. (((Hugs))) Mom
Re.#139.
Awesome my FRiend, will keep an eye
Out for him.
Peace be upon you both.
Tet.
Well I see you’ve been “roasted”. If you survived you are officially a FReeper! Welcome. :-)
Oops #137.
Note to young one, Always preview before you hit post. Best of luck.

“he has trouble with the alogical English written language.”
Just great! I was hoping he could teach some of us.
Welcome to FR, gsm31.
Welcome to FR, gsm31. You’ll do just fine here. :-)
Awesome. There are sure worse things he could be doing with his time. Your goals for his participation here seem reasonable and well thought out. Good luck to you both!
Most Freepers are not going to have seen your explanatory post, meaning that gsm31 might continue to bump into unnecessary misunderstandings. If you help him put together his profile page, explaining who he is and why he’s here, it could make his introduction to the community here go much more smoothly.
I’m looking forward to seeing gsm31 become part of FreeRepublic.
I’ve let the other Mods know.
No problem, E5.
Welcome to your son.
He will receive a great education here, and may even enlighten a few of us along the way.
Thanks for letting us know...
Tell your son to hang in there....Keep reading, keep learning.
Shalom,
Congratulations.

We are an ever vigilant bunch of folk here.
Welcome aboard.
Well that clears that up. I thought this might turn like that poor Chinese freeper noob last year.
Welcome aboard gsm31, mop duty then promotions.
This phrase is used in a sketch about a badly translated phrasebook from the British TV comedy show, Monty Python's Flying Circus. There's a video of the sketch on youtube.

It's possibly the most useful phrase there is, and a handy one to have when you're asked to say something in a language you're learning.
