For some reason mainstream media is slow to catch up on this but we here at LibertyNEWS.com believe this situation could explode into global world war. For those who don’t yet know, a Turkish fighter jet fired a rocket at a Russian warplane, bringing the plane down and killing the pilot (another may be in enemy hands).
Click here for the story on LibertyNEWS.com.
Turkey claims the Russian warplane crossed into Turkey’s airspace, a violation that warranted the extreme action. Make no mistake about it, this could be viewed as an act of war. An act of war committed by both sides of the situation.
What makes the scenario extremely dangerous is that Turkey is a NATO country. And according to Article 5 of the NATO Charter, any NATO nation who is attacked must be defended by all members of NATO.
In essence, if Russia retaliates, the United States and Europe must go to war with Russia.
Here’s the exact language from Article 5.
âThe Parties agree that an armed attack against one or more of them in Europe or North America shall be considered an attack against them all and consequently they agree that, if such an armed attack occurs, each of them, in exercise of the right of individual or collective self-defence recognized by Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, will assist the Party or Parties so attacked by taking forthwith, individually and in concert with the other Parties, such action as it deems necessary, including the use of armed force, to restore and maintain the security of the North Atlantic area.
Any such armed attack and all measures taken as a result thereof shall immediately be reported to the Security Council. Such measures shall be terminated when the Security Council has taken the measures necessary to restore and maintain international peace and security.â
What Russia’s response will be is unknown. That said, Putin is saying he will not tolerate any attack on Russia’s military.
LibertyNEWS.com’s Jenna Leigh Richardson has been covering the story this morning and said “this could be catastrophic.”
Indeed.
As far as I am concerned; and, as someone on this board said earlier, NATO should have been disbanded back when the iron curtain came down.
10:1 that if we get tangled in a full fledged commitment against Russia in the ME, China will decide to pull the trigger on territorial expansion.
I can’t think of anything in the world that would induce bathouse barry to honor Article 5 of the NATO Charter. Nothing. The man has no honor so breaking a treaty would come as easily to him as violating the Constitution.
Our Terrorist in Chief would be thrilled to have war break out.
Putin is more sensible.
Obama, Susan Rice, et al.....It’s like having a 6 year old driving a car.
This is the first time since the 1950s that a Russian or Soviet military aircraft has been publicly acknowledged to have been shot down by a NATO country.
Honestly, when I woke up to the news of the downed jet, and learned that Turkey had shot it down, I had a sinking feeling in my stomach.
Say, for instance, Russia decides to take out some SAM sites in Turkey...for their own ‘safety’.
The best case scenario that can result from this: a demonstration to the world once and for all that NATO is a joke, and membership is meaningless. That’s the BEST result. All Putin has to do is push the issue with Turkey.
“If democrats canât contain Obama theyâll lose it all in 2016...”
we could only hope! but those folks who have invested so heavily in Hillary’s 2016 campaign and the Clinton Global Initiative are going to make sure that HRC is our next president. as they are looking forward to, and expecting, a big return on their investment. count on it. [but, Dear Lord, don’t let it be so.]
Why is Turkey (muslims) a part of NATO? They have been helping Isis.
“This is a little over the top.”
Agree. Obama will not ever pull the trigger for war. Never. If the United States is ever attacked, it will be his subordinates who will have to take over.
