If you check out the entangling alliances which led to WWI from the assassination of an Archduke in Sarajevo, no, it isn't so farfetched.
We have a Pentagon full of social engineers and a Muslim (sympathizer, at least) in the White House.
Mr. 'phone and pen' wouldn't hesitate to entangle us in a war that pits us against one of the other major non-muslim powers, one the Chinese are likely to side with. If that gets really nasty, then there will only be a few non Muslim powers to contend with, and most of those are already invaded.

The only advice I have is to slooooow down.
The plane was over Turkey for seconds. Yeah, they were warned, and shooting them down could defended....but shooting the pilots was criminal.
We need to slow way, way down.

Obama will come out and say this is why he wanted a no-fly zone as part of his red line in Syria. Of course no one was ever informed that Obama wanted a no-fly zone, but the MSM will invent one and figure out a way to blame Bush for it.
Putin isn’t stupid, but he will push more strikes on US backed Rebels in Syria forcing Obama to make a decision.
This is going to get very interesting, especially if Obama has to go to the UN for support.

I agree. It’s a discomforting escalation, but I don’t think the players involved want an expanded war.
The problem with Putin sticking his nose out, is that it then becomes a prime target.
Putin, keep your aircraft over Syria.
Turkey, don’t be too anxious to mix it up. This may not turn out as spiffy as you think.

I think it’s time for us to really look for the reason that our country has become one of the bad guys in this world.
We are on the wrong side, and we are going to pay a high price real soon, i fear.

I could be wrong, but this doesn't rise to Archduke Ferdinand level.
Unless Jean Francois Kerry gets involved, then all bets are off.

I don't believe this is the next "Shot Heard Around the World."
But, if the people behind the throne want to orchestrate a larger conflict for whatever reason, there is plenty enough kindling to start a much bigger fire.
