What begins? Russia’s GDP is less than both CA. and Texas. Turkey is a member of NATO for better or worse. Russian power stems more from myth than fact though they are a tough people when their backs are to the wall.
I am a little surprised by this. They surely cannot let Russia run roughshod and I know they gave warnings, but they still could protested diplomatically and warned that ‘next time’ we will shoot.
Until now I would have thought Turkey could play both sides against the middle, with NATO membership secure they could move very aggressively towards being a Russian ally in all but name only and maybe get the best of both worlds. There is an axis that runs Moscow - Ankhara - Damascus - Tehran, should be beneficial to Turkey. Maybe this was the army acting without explicit political support? But now I am reminded of how angry they were when Israel boarded their Gaza blockade running ships. Turkey isn’t in a spot to complain about aggressive defense of territory anymore.
Turkey has been aiding and abetting ISIS all along. The only shots they fired in anger have been at our Kurdish allies. And now the Russians.
What implications are there vis a vis our NATO ties to Turkey if Turkey's attacked by Russia since Turkey was the original aggressor?
France and Turkey are allied in NATO. So no I don’t expect they would have shot a NATO member down.
So it’s really NOT about violating their sacred airspace then...got it.
Erdogan is just another islamist thug. He's not our friend...although he does seem to be chummy with bathouse barry.
You sound surprised that the Turks have an agenda. :-)
If Putin doesn’t start using his nukes, he will be replaced or killed. I say go ahead and nuke Turkey and ISIS...That leaves Iran but two out of three ain’t bad. Israel can do the Iranglow thing.
Turkey has shown that they are moslum first, anti terrorist second. Time to kick them out of NATO.
Yep...I was the direct recipient of the hurry up and wait orders from that!
Turkey should have been kicked out of NATO when they refused the U.S. access to move equipment during the second gulf war...
//////////
OR when they attacked Cyprus.
They had no reason to attack that Russian jet....except to help the spread of MODERATE jihad.
50 years ago this would have been the beginning of WW3.
Use the nukes or lose.
However, a NATO "obligated" response in the region could give cover to help his friends in ISIS. Defending Turkey against Russia puts us against ISIS's biggest threat today.
I thought for a second there that KGB Putin was admitting that the Russians had terrorist accomplices.
Turkey’s government is complicit with ISIS. They should not be a part of NATO...................
Finally the KURDS will get the weapons they’ve been needing.
IIRC, our obligation under NATO does not include aggression by one of the member states upon a non-member state who does not attack first.................
It appears it is possible - even likely - that the Russian plan overflew Turkish airspace, but that it was shot down after it had left Turkish airspace.
Shooting it down in Turkish airspace would not have been strictly an act of war; shooting it down outside Turkish airspace almost certainly would be.
See my post 38.
No quarter with the Turks?
