The problem is not Avis but the people working in the office. Avis needs to clean out that office and train new staff
Mental note to self: Never rent from Avis again.
Sounds like planned infiltration.
Sounds like a Seinfeld episode.

Their FB response
On Friday, a customer seeking to rent a car from Avis Car Rental was not allowed to do so because he failed to provide the required documentation. Visitors to the U.S. From other countries must provide both a valid drivers license from their country of residence as well as a valid International Drivers License or passport in order to rent from Avis. We are aggressively investigating the customer’s allegations regarding the handling of this matter, as we do not tolerate any form of discrimination. So far, our ongoing investigation suggests that this customer is unfairly maligning us with unfounded accusations.
I usually say “I can’t boycott businesses I don’t patronize” but it applies in this case. It is the height of stupidity to turn away good business. The car rental business is cutthroat - I can easily find an alternative to avis.
There’s no way those two were following company policy. This was a case of a couple of local employees at that particular office who had an agenda of their own. Unfortunately, this will reflect badly on the entire company. The rental agent and her supervisor should be fired, but they won’t be. After all, as we all know, that would be racism.
Here is what she is doing in her spare time:

I await a rental car agency, or any business that requires valid ID, to deny service to ID holders that are not outwardlh identifying in public as the sex indicated on the ID. Holy hell will break out everywhere and it will force a push to allow sex to be changed on original documents.
I’d boycott Avis.... but I quit doing business with them years ago.
Avis is the armpit of the rental car industry.
Sent an email to Avis, posted on their Facebook. Will be sending this article to all my associates, family and friends. This is outrageous. Thanks for the heads-up. P.S. I’m Catholic.
I like to think Freepers are a cut above the rest of the population, it’s very obvious from this thread that many aren’t.
With the exception of machogirl in post 8, everyone has been as quick as any Liberal condemning a conservative with their condemnation of Avis.
You need to read post 8.
Seesh, how embarrassing.
Ya all ought be ashamed.
I as well as quite a few people here have sent AVIS a protest letter and I’ve canceled my account.
We occasionally rent for business and personal from Avis as there happens to be an office convenient to us.
In the future we will do a little extra driving to avoid them.
I will also contact the main Avis office. They have a Twitter page and I notice already there are negative comments. They posted an excuse about this incident as though they are the victim.
Will check Facebook as well.
That frosts it for me!
I won’t rent from Avis again if the allegations turn out to be true. Avis can go to Hell.
I have rented a car at a foreign avis location (years ago) and they asked for my passport — a US drivers license or company card wasn’t enough.
This Israeli tried to rent a car in another country without providing a passport, only giving a foreign drivers license.
It sounds possible that the employee was following company policy.
According to the response from the company it sounds like it.
Oy Vey!
