"If we put in place a strong E-Verify system and deport criminal illegal aliens, the number of people here illegally will drop significantly, particularly if there's not a continual flow of people coming in illegally," Cruz said.
"At that point, once we've demonstrated that we can solve the problem, then we can have a conversation about what to do about whatever people remain illegally," Cruz added. When asked if that conversation included the potential for a pathway to legal status, he repeated, "We can have that conversation with the American people once we secure the border."

I will trust the less-than-perfect guy with a true political compass: The guy who wants to “have a conversation”? No, thank you.
Assumption much?
Okay. I don’t follow Cruz all that closely, so I pick up things late sometimes. Thanks.
Let you in on a little secret.
Trump knows you do not negotiate from a position of weakness. Thus the “they all gotta go back” diatribe.
Cruz gives up half the battle by acquiescing legal status before anyone has sat at the table. Surprising for an Attorney of his stature.
They gotta go.
You are a public servant of American citizens. Do what we tell you to do, or we will fire you.
End of conversation.
Assumption much?
A touchback legalization amnesty is implied from Trump's use of the word "expedite". Trump doesn't say that they should "go to the end of the line".
He says they have to come in legally, which is not how they are here now.
The only issue I have with Cruz is his insistence that the 14th Amendment protects Anchor Babies, it does not.
Since he is a Constitutional Lawyer, I was shocked by his statement that a Constitutional Amendment must be put in place rather than the reality that Congress can change the Birthright Immigration Policy without defying the 14th Amendment.
I’m a Cruz Supporter, but this one thing has been bugging me since he made his comments sometime back.
As far as the Thread topic is concerned, I will have to give it some thought before I comment further. I understand the reality of his take on this, but I would still like to know what qualifies as a Secure Border to him, Trump’s Wall?
The Cruz written plan contains a wall.
He doesn't plan on sending illegals back to their nation of origin.
Trump's and Cruz's written plans mention deportation for the criminals back to their nation of origin. Trump's and Cruz's written plans do not mention deportation for the non criminals, but they do say that existing laws should be enforced which would certainly imply deportation.
In that, his plan is no different than John McCainâs plan.
No it's not.
Great point. You can’t negotiate from behind unless you’re Obama and Kerry of course.
He wants to "expedite" them back in legally.
A way to expedite them in legally would be for a cut-the-line legalization amnesty passed by Mitch and Ryan and then signed off by Trump.
It is not false. VinL has the video from 2011 of Cruz talking about a wall.
Or not.
He’s actually been saying that we must end anchor babies either by legislation, or if necessary, by an amendment.
Thank you for the link!!
good point, moe, but why do you believe he gave up half of any battle?
cruz is as constitutional as hussein is fascist.
hussein used a whole lotta doublespeak on the campaign trail, but we knew what he meant.
why can’t cruz say “we’ll talk about x after we do y” and know all along that he’ll work for doing x the correct way when that time comes along? we all knew hussein would never do the right thing when push comes to shove. i think we can rely on cruz to do that, too. :)
Cruz has said before he does not support any kind of amnesty.
Now tell us again how much you like Bill Clinton.
What you said about Trump is false and I posted supporting evidence.
I didn’t say anything about Cruz.
