A young Bronx woman who was desperate to have a child yesterday slit the throat of a nine months' pregnant woman, carved the live baby out of her belly and then maniacally proclaimed that she had just given birth, sources told The Post.
"It's my baby!" Ashley Wade allegedly insisted to cops arriving at the blood-soaked scene, with the placenta and umbilical cord from the gutted woman lying on the floor.
The police officers were called to Wade's home in the Wakefield section at around 2:20 p.m. by her boyfriend, who had walked in on the aftermath of the grisly slaying.
He was standing outside the home cradling the healthy newborn when the officers showed up, and he rushed them to the crime scene.

What I should have said was long as I can remember. Since the late 1960-70s. Of course there are different parts of the Bronx as well. But it's been savage there for a long time, in comparison to the other boroughs. Brooklyn comes next.

Of course Car 54 starred actor Fred Gwynne (Herman of the Munsters). Al Lewis (Grandpa) was in it too.
I guess we know a different NY. Some good areas, some bad. Brooklyn has many fine neighborhoods and tourists inundate the Arthur Avenue area.
Italians fled these areas and nearly everywhere else in New York City in mass exodus a couple decades ago. These neighborhoods may still look nice and be safe, if not even safer than when the Italians were there, but they are drastically different in character than they were in the 80s and before. You rarely even see an Italian person anymore. From what I understand many moved to Staten Island and New Jersey.
Who said anything about Italians - although they certainly are in the Arthur Avenue section. Brooklyn is being increasingly gentrified - I thought even the Pygmies in Africa knew that. Meanwhile, Queens has huge melting pots of Greeks, Italians, Polish, Chinese, etc.

I would find it hard to believe that you do. Where exactly in Queens TODAY, outside of Howard Beach, are all of these Italians you mention? Numerous Spanish-speaking people, Chinese, other Asian and Middle Easterners, Polish (in certain areas), yes, but rare few Italians (anywhere). I've lived in New York City all of my 50+ years, and am half Italian, with relatives and friends throughout Brooklyn and Manhattan, where I was born and lived until the early 70s before we moved to Queens where I've been ever since. You're definitely correct on the gentrification of Brooklyn, also Manhattan, with many nauseating yuppy types and other assorted liberal-orientated freaks.

Obviously, many of the historically bad neighborhoods in Brooklyn have changed a lot with the huge inflow of yuppies and other liberal-minded young white people, but, in the areas where there are still problems, the degree of savagery hasn’t changed over the decades. Bronx, as I said earlier, is even worse. Seems most of the most violent crimes in NYC are committed in the Bronx, with Brooklyn a not-too-distant 2nd.
Thanks for the reference to Car 54. As much as I love the old shows (I can’t stand nearly all TV sitcoms since the 70s), I don’t recall watching this one very much. But after checking it out on YouTube, I really wished that I had watched it, especially having lived in New York City all of my life and being a big fan of the Munsters. Thanks again.
Ozone Park, for one, Middle Village, for another - that even as a small Maltese population. Astoria still has a sizable Greek-American population. Ridgewood now has Polish-Americans. When I was a kid it was Irish and German. Yes, of course, there are tons of Hispanics in the boroughs - perhaps the Italians get lost among them. We have an apt. in Manhattan.
Ozone Park? I don't know when you were there last, but you'd be lucky if you see a single Italian walking around there today. I lived for about 35 years in nearby Richmond Hill, but in the 70s and 80s hung out in Oz Pk.
It's nearly entirely Middle Easterners and Guyanese Indians there today, actually since about the 90s. Middle Village still has some Italians, as does Maspeth. Maspeth is still a beautiful, very patriotic area, as are (mostly Irish) Broad Channel and Belle Harbor.
On 69th St near the Long Island Expressway in Maspeth there is a Maspeth Federal Savings Bank that sponsors annual live oldies concerts in their parking lot. The late great John Maestro performed there around 10 years ago. I've seen a few really good groups there within the past 5 or 6 years, including the Duprees and the Tokens. Veterans groups hold yearly fund-raising hot rod and classics car shows for sick children in the same parking lot (Toys 4 Tots). Amazing things in this day and age for New York. That area is really like a scene from the 50s or 60s. Too bad the rest of the city has collapsed like it has.
Yes. Up until a year ago I lived in next door Glendale. Glendale is also next door to Middle Village.
