A man beaten by two Alameda County sheriffâs deputies in a San Francisco alley was scheduled for surgery Wednesday to repair extensive â and perhaps permanently disabling â injuries to his arms and hands.
The operation at San Francisco General would be taking place amid indications that federal law enforcement authorities may join the investigation into the incident.
Two deputies, still unidentified, were captured on motion-activated security camera video around 2 a.m. last Thursday chasing Stanislav Petrov down a Mission District side street â the end of a high-speed chase that originated in San Leandro.
The Alameda County Sheriffâs Office says the deputies chased Petrov, who was allegedly driving a car that had been reported stolen, across the Bay Bridge at speeds up to 100 mph.
One deputy is shown tackling Petrov after he rammed a parked car and ran from his vehicle. The deputy and his partner are then seen beating Petrov on the head, arms, legs and torso with batons. The beating went on for an indeterminate amount of time â the video skips approximately every 10 seconds â and continued even after other police officers arrived on the scene.
Petrov is heard crying out in pain at several points in the recording.
Petrovâs mother, Olga Petrova, said her son would undergo surgery to install âpins and plates and metal parts, which heâs going to have in his arms for the rest of his life.â

No, I was talking about the random thugs who run, evade, and fight the cops every day.
Again, young Stan was not a law-abiding citizen minding his own business when two policeman jumped him because they suspected he was not loyal to The Party.
He smashed a car into another car and then fled the scene of the crime.
Everyone knows that if you run from the cops, they will make it so you stop running.
That's how life works.
If he didn't want to get hit, he shouldn't have run.
Don't confuse a common criminal with the actual victims of actual fascists.
“The Gold Run Division of the CHP is notorious for this behavior. This is why cops need to be tested for steroid use in excessive use of force cases.”
From the looks of this case, they are going to be able to continue to abuse people.
“Looks like the assholes who want to run and fight and make law enforcement a competition have plenty of support from others here. “
I guess we didn’t watch the same video. Yeah, the guy tried to run away, but he offered no resistancee when the two cops caught up with him. LEO’s are supposed to only use enough force to effectuate control of a subject. Can you honestly say that all that murderous beating was really necessary to put the man in handcuffs?
The problem I see coming for LE is that beyond the photographic evidence of their criminal behavior, there are going to be cases where the perp(s) decide to get even after the fact. We’re already seeing cops being shot in their cars while they sit. All this kind of behavior does is strengthen the resolve of some folks to take retribution. And unfortunately, the cops who get hit, are probably not the one’s who deserve it.
Sorry, I don't identify in any way with the people who run, resist and fight.
You almost sound like anyone of these scofflaws is justified in taking "retribution."
As I have said, I am fully capable of knowing both that there are cops who shouldn't be cops, and there is a whole class of society who thinks the law is whatever they think they can get away with.
When they encounter each other, I am mainly amused.
“You almost sound like anyone of these scofflaws is justified in taking “retribution.””
What a stupid comment! The police have a right to be safe, they don’t have a right to mete out “justice” at the end of a night stick or a gun! I guess we will just have to see how this matter plays out. I live in the East Bay, so I will see local press accounts.
and you shouldn’t confuse the cops with the judiciary. I gather sniffing cop-jock turns you on so I leave you to your error in understanding how the world really works. Track these two nazis and see how the real judiciary rules on this felony.
I guess, then, I'm not sure what kind of point you were trying to make.
“I guess, then, I’m not sure what kind of point you were trying to make.”
The ONLY POINT to be made here is that cops have to follow the laws they are sworn to uphold. Neither you nor I would be on “paid administrative leave” if we had beaten an intruder in our back yard now would we? Now more than ever we need cops to be absolute supporters of the laws we have. Each of these videos that call to question the commitment of law enforcement to follow the law, only serve to make everything worse for both them and us.
