“If you keep people from going to prison in the first place, and they don’t get caught up in that system and they are getting employed and they have ways of taking care of their family, that brings crime down, and so I think we have all of the stakeholders firmly engaged in this process as a way of keeping our neighborhoods safer and allowing people to lead productive lives.”
We are in Orwell’s 1984, and this is Newspeak.
So many of the people in prison in the first place have not been gainfully employed or done anything productive with their lives. They are members of street gangs, and their “employment” consists of doing God knows what in the streets.
Yes of course sending gang members back to the streets will make the streets safer. Liberals live in a dream world.
1984 is a must-read or re-read.
I read that statement three times thinking I was missing something. I don’t even know what to say anymore. Unreal.
Look for a spike in murders, both releasees preying on the public and releasees being killed by the drug dealers who replaced them in the old 'hood when they went away to Club Fed.
Black-on-black crime in the 80's and 90's, during the "crack wars", was about competing distributorship players killing each other. It accounted for very close to 50% of all murders, and half of murders of non-black people. (That's about 6% of the population, "black boys", accounting for 75% of all murders everywhere in the United States.)
Whoever these people are, their return to freedom will not be celebrated by people who "moved up" because of their incarceration.
