BAGHDAD, Iraq - Iraq's national flag carrier will begin its first direct flights from Baghdad to Washington next year, Iraqi Airways' Director General Osama Sadr told reporters on Wednesday.
"The preparation has been done after several meetings were held with the administrative bodies of the airports that Iraq is planning to travel to," Sadr said, announcing that flights also would be starting to Belarus and Tunisia.
Sadr said the airline is trying to connect Iraq to most countries around the world, and the airline is busy negotiating with airports where it wants to land.
Baqr Jabr Zubaidi, from Iraq's Ministry of Transportation, said Iraq would soon be receiving new commercial aircraft.
"There should be more attention given to airlines and the newest planes need to provided," he said. "By the end of this month, some 32 new Airbus and Boeing aircraft will be provided to Iraqi airline companies," Zubaidi added.
Ha ha...bet Obama delays it until he leaves Office.
It would take a few seconds to take off from Reagan and divert one into the white house. I wouldn’t let my kids sleep in the white house.
My sentiments exactly. Hopefully Obama and Biden will routinely take this flight, and maybe Paul Ryan would not.
Actually, DCA/Reagan hosts very limited international flights. Most such traffic goes to Dulles (and a bit to BWI (Baltimore)). But your concern is still valid.
Who is “providing” advanced planes for this? Taxpayers funding a country swimming in oil?
Good morning,Allah Akbar 21 !
What could go wrong?
IOW, I have about 11 months to show my grandkids the Capitol Building before it’s gone forever.
OMG....what could POSSIBLY go wrong???
Lets check in with the hostages in Mali for that answer.
Now we can our terrorists here even quicker.
Oh Boy, here they come. Every ISIS terrorist with the price of a ticket can get here quickly.
What could possibly go wrong. . .
Did you ever fly into Reagan National? A slight deviation in course of the plane gets you crashing into the Capitol or the White House. What could possibly go wrong?
Reagan Nation. . .almost weekly a few years ago.
Now, several time per month.
The mid-east has no real security controls in place to ensure SOME level of security. Heck, Egypt, went there monthly as well a few years back. On the morning of check-out, I paid the hotel limo driver 30 Egyptian pounds cash (about 10 US bucks) and after we arrived at the Cairo airport he took my bags and escorted me past immigration and direct to the executive lounge. He then took my passport (the same one the hotel had made a copy of when we arrived) and went and got it stamped and returned with it good to go.
Never had to wallow for an hour or so in the smelly crowds to process through immigration. Didn’t have to get my bags scanned. Nothing.
And that was one of the mid-east airports that was certified secure by TSA. So now we will have Iraq. . .secure?. . .yeah, what could possibly go wrong.
