GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump believes that the war on terror will require unprecedented surveillance of Americaâs Muslims.
âWeâre going to have to do thing that we never did before,â he said during a Yahoo interview. âSome people are going to be upset about it, but I think that now everybody is feeling that security is going to rule,â Trump said.
âCertain things will be done that we never thought would happen in this country in terms of information and learning about the enemy,â he added. âWeâre going to have to do things that were frankly unthinkable a year ago.â
Trump would not rule out warrantless searches in his plans for increased surveillance of the nationâs Muslims, Yahoo reported Thursday.
He also remained open toward registering U.S. Muslims in a database or giving them special identification identifying their faith, the news outlet added.
âWeâre going to have to look at a lot of things very closely,â Trump said. âWeâre going to have to look at the mosques. Weâre going to have to look very, very carefully.â
Trump additionally floated former New York Police Department Commissioner Ray Kelly for a position in his potential presidential administration.
âRayâs a great guy,â he said of the former NYPD chief. âRay did a fab job as commissioner, and sure, Ray would be somebody Iâd certainly consider.â

Once they’re here he’ll have a hard time getting this done. While all immigrants are required to carry their green card/resident-alien card the equal protection clause in the Constitution will prevent different rules for different people.
Maybe the only caveat is a line declaring “religious affiliation” regardless of what it is.
Trump’s idea is over the top but he has at least proposed one and hopefully our PC concern about security profiling will be seriously reexamined.......without the ‘Star of David’ treatment for any group.
I think your stipulation is what Trump has in mind. Moslems not in those categories can be watched through their associations with the ones that are.
Just Japanese. And I really wouldn't call it our finest moment as a nation.
All aliens used to have to register. TV used to broadcast regular PSAs reminding them to update their registration.
Exactly. We shouldn't have to dismantle the Constitution to fight terrorism.

BTW, I wouldn't call it our finest moment either.
Any concept where one group has to be specially identified automatically leads to a wider system where all groups must be identified. There is a constitutional black hole at the center of these proposals.
Therefore I would be very wary of such laws or procedures, the term “slippery slope” is applicable for certain.
There is also the constitutional question of group guilt for individual crime to be considered here. Once again, do evangelical Christians for example wish to open that door? How about libertarians if they are all to be guilty of any one tax evader’s wrongdoing?
The situation is not so dire that any of this is needed. Surveillance of target mosques, sure, with appropriate judicial oversight. Immigration control, yes. But taking a whole group of citizens and putting them in this sort of separate legal stream is (for lack of a better term) anti-American. And yes, it would come back to bite hard, don’t ever give the left precedents they can use against you later.
Yup.
This is why the constitution is my number 1 priority in selecting a president.
I for it 1000%.
And register their children too!
Better yet, don't allow them in the US in the first place.
This is typical liberal-leaning tapdancing. I think even if Trump wins, if these people had their way, they wouldn’t want him to make any waves or ruffle anyone’s feathers, so that after 8 years, all the Obola BS would still be undisturbed. Mindboggling.
Trump needs to charge forward, undo Obola’s damage, and straighten out what’s needed...and just let the whimperers whimper. You can’t make an omelet without cracking a few eggs.
Well I think if you want to stop importing Muslims then Donald Trump is your Huckleberry.
We should have been tracking the muslims and ID’ing them at the airports all along instead of hassling 5th generation Americans who never blow up anything.
But I digress. We need to get rid of the Muslims. They are the problem. And the illegals.
This is the problem with Trump.
He is a loose cannon that really has no true fidelity to the constitution.
A tracking database of Muslims here is the US is ridiculous.

Aren’t most newcomers in a tracking base already when they enter. Now how accurate it is
and how up to date it is depends on lots of things.
Just get them out of here.
They do not belong here.
Boxcars would come in handy too.
Big difference: Germany didn’t make a policy out of importing Jews. Quite the contrary, at first they sought to force them out. The simple answer for all of these immigrants is to go home.
I think there’s a common sense argument as well as the constitutional argument to be made against this.
Right now, there are possibly five hundred or a thousand angry Muslims (of long term residence if not U.S. birth) who might be angry enough to qualify as security risks. Those are the people that the NSA should be trying to identify and track.
With the Donald Trump system in place, there will no doubt be fifty thousand or maybe a lot more angry Muslims. Okay so there’s a database to track them, but still, which ones do you follow more closely than the rest?
The whole scheme is counter-productive and will just play right into the hands of groups like ISIS and Al Qaeda.
Cruz for president and Trump, return to your business empire, we get the picture now.
