Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump just put rival Ted Cruz on notice: Get too hot and I'll have to take you down.
Describing the senator from Texas as "nice and supportive," Trump told CNBCâs "Squawk Box" on Monday that the two candidates have similar ideas on many of the issues, including border security and the need for a wall to keep out illegal immigrants.
"[But] If he catches on, I guess we'll have to go to war," Trump said of Cruz, who's seen a bit of a bump nationally and in the early contest states of Iowa and New Hampshire since last week's Republican debate.

Yes, well I was BORN in New York. So, I hardly hate it. I was heartbroken my Mets didn’t win the Series. I live in MD now, but I dislike Baltimore and hate blue crabs.
And as a businessman, I’ve always admired trump.
But politically? Fuggetaboutit. He’s an opportunist with natural big government instincts dressing up as a conservative.
At very best, he’s a pig in a poke. I’ve already suffered through the kenyan antichrist. I don’t want the Republican-branded version.
5 Stars my friend. You nailed it.Agreed, but is he allowed to say it on this thread? ;)
“how”
I grew up on the north side of the city of Chicago, in the West Rogers Park neighborhood, around Devon and Western. I know that some Chicagoans do not like NYC, but that's mostly a Cubs-Mets thing, going back to 1969 and yes, to some extent, a "second city" thing, even going back to the 1890s. But the northern-urban thing that some here don't like about NYC--that is just fine with me.
I still have some very good friends in Chicago and I do miss it and our view of the Lake.
Trump might want to be careful here...
Cruz is head and shoulders above the rest of the field...
Smarter, thoughtful, articulate and knowledgeable...
He just might regret his warning...
There used to be a whole lot of them here, who trashed NYC and ALL New Yorkers, without reason. I don't know if they're all still here, but I have seen a few post their vitriol lately.
And, based on what he has said and what he has not said, even this year, I have reason to think those issues still are not that important to him. Thus my distrust of Trump and my strong preference for Cruz.
I don’t care if Trump has been a liberal who has never read the constitution and makes Don Rickles look refined.
Trump may have serious flaws, but he’s a damn sight better than Bush the Lesser and Clinton the Lesser. With no boorish Trump in the race that’s what we’d end up with.
Do you think Trump can win the Republican Party nomination without what you dismissively call the "little Anglo Christian Right"? Many of us do not trust this guy on issues that are very important to us, including the increasingly important issue of religious liberty.
Well, I do care. Liberalism and lack of knowledge of the Constitution are pretty much not what I want in a President.
Trump may have serious flaws, but he's a damn sight better than Bush the Lesser and Clinton the Lesser.
And I do not favor any of those three.
A 1-on-1 debate between these two would be epic (and I suspect highly embarrassing for a lot of Kool-Aid drinkers). I know which I’d prefer to be debating Hillary (and that guy wouldn’t be thanked for his donations during the debate).
He has a large amount ( all things considered re voting patterns ) of Hispanics, blacks, Indies, disaffected Dems, and a whole LOT of GOP voters who will vote for him.
With no Trump, that’s the choice we’d end up with. Bush or Clinton.
I’d love for a “pure” conservative, free of Super Pac influence, who has never waffled or voted with Obama on any trade or treaty authority issues to arrive on the scene blessed with the sort of media savvy and charisma that makes him appeal to those who would normally shy away from a Republican conservative.
But until that ideal comes along, I’ll go with Trump, warts and all, because he’s no worse than HillaBush and may be light years better. Since I don’t think Cruz can win, I’ve got nothing to lose by supporting Trump as a wrecking ball.
Trump and Cruz have pretty similar views, but Trump is the one lighting everyone on fire! Okay...not "everyone", but a whole LOT more than anyone else is and NOT just regular GOP voters.
Fair enough. My only point is that the worst you can say about Trump on those issues is that he’s neutral. To paint him as some Left wing ideologue would be inaccurate. It’s the other issues that paint a more compelling reason to vote for him in my opinion.
To withhold support from him simply because he’s not pure enough on every issue would be short sighted in my opinion. You have to ask yourself, on the issues which you find him to be weakest, how bad is he likely to be? And on the issues in which he’s strongest, what is he likely to accomplish?
In terms of comparing him to other candidates, I would likewise say one should asses them ultimately on what they are likely to accomplish. While it’s important to have some idea as to where they come from ideologically and morally, ultimately what matters is what they’ll accomplish.
I would make the case that it might be possible for someone like Trump to accomplish more for the good of the nation and the conservative movement then someone who is more ideologically pure like Cruz.
I like Cruz, and was a Cruz supporter before Trump got into the race, but I just don’t think he would be able to accomplish nearly as much positive as Trump would. That’s not a slight on Cruz. It’s just that it’s not enough to believe all the right things. You also need to have the ability to accomplish what you set out to accomplish. In that department, Trump has all the other candidates beaten, hands down, imo.
Way to go.. Numb nuts... The single constitutional candidate is Cruz.. If you war with him you lose the true constitutionalist. Shut your stupid mouth..
I sens that both Trump and Cruz get along very well, both meet-eye-to-eye on thie issues.
Yeah, but Cruz isn't an expert in being obnoxious and insulting people. That's a real trait of great POTUS /s
