A Democratic candidate for Minnesota state representative is ending his campaign because of backlash to a post he made on social media about the Islamic State.
Dan Kimmel, a software developer and self-described "business process expert" from Burnsville, Minn., posted a tweet Saturday night that said "ISIS isn't necessarily evil. It is made up of people doing what they think is best for their community. Violence is not the answer, though."
His tweet came a day after attacks in Paris left 128 dead and at least 350 injured. The Islamic State claimed responsibility.
Kimmel has since deleted the statement and followed up with another tweet that said "I deplore the evil acts of ISIS. I do not defend their acts."
In a statement titled "Evil" released Sunday, Kimmel explained that the tweet was in response to a comment made during the Democratic debate Saturday evening and not in response to the attacks in Paris.
"It was poorly worded and did not convey my intent," Kimmel said. "I do think the attacks in Paris yesterday, along with other ISIS terrorist actions, are cowardly and despicable.
"I am folding up my campaign tent," he said, adding that his campaign website and Facebook page will be down by Sunday afternoon. He also apologized to his campaign volunteers and contributors.
"I am very sorry for 'spreading ick' on other candidates and the [Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor] party," Kimmel continued. "I will do everything I can to help resolve the issue: most likely the best thing for me to do is shut up. The tweet was stupid. I'm sorry."
The only one stupid enough to actually say what every democrat/liberal actually thinks.
It is telling that he still can’t bring himself to call them evil.
is Danny a muzzie or just a muzzie leghumper trolling for the MN Muzzie vote?
There's no fundamental difference between what he said, and the lib drones who immediately knee-jerk back to the talking points, "these mass murders don't justify harsh words directed toward the perps". Thanks markomalley.
Took many paragraphs to get to the Democrat label.
{”The only one stupid enough to actually say what every democrat/liberal actually thinks.”}
Every so often one of them has a Freudian Slip and gives the game away.
“The only one stupid enough to actually say what every democrat/liberal actually thinks.”
True, that was probably at least one step over the stupid line into “incredibly stupid”.
Hey Kimmel, your best course of action would be to leave our country permanently, & go run for public office in Syria.
A Gaffe is when you unintentionally say what you really think.
ping
Since he's from Minnesota, it would be more appropriate for him to run for mayor of Mogadishu.
It's in the headline...what more can you ask for?
When people self describe themselves “expert” at anything it usually means they are expert at making fools of themselves.
Relativism writ ... kinda small. Time for this assclown to go back to being a nobody.
‘Spreading ick’. How old is this guy? 5?
Poster boy for soft-headed liberalism.
Can’t even identify evil staring him in the face, might offend someone.......
Ya' think, Dan?
