The point was evil intent, not the level of danger.

The purpose of the sport was to get to finish line fastest - not to maim or kill.

This took place in an age when most people had pretty dangerous jobs.

You think the other drivers didn't have evil intent when they tried to force the other driver off the track, struck at their eyes with whips, jammed a stick in their wheel and so on and so forth?

The purpose of the sport was to get to finish line fastest - not to maim or kill.

Maiming or killing the other drivers and their animals was a good way of getting to the finish line the fastest.

Sorry but the gentle sport of chariot racing was every bit as much a brutal blood sport as the rest of the games.
