I looked into their gun laws. They are byzantine but doable.
They are not at all ridiculous for the average person. I have bought guns in France with absolutely no problem. I have also transported my guns (duly enclosed in a gun case) through Paris airports with no questions asked. Try it at Heathrow or Gatwick!
