Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump told Business Insider on Thursday that he is demanding a formal apology from The Wall Street Journal for an editorial that panned his free-trade policies.
"In other words, they said, 'Donald Trump made a mistake in his speech.' And I didn't. It was said perfectly," the real-estate mogul said during an interview at his Trump Tower office.
"And when you read my transcript â that's the transcript of my speech," he said, handing out a typed copy of his debate remarks, "it's perfect. So now we've demanded an apology from The Wall Street Journal."
The editorial in question pointed to Trump's strong opposition to the Trans-Pacific Partnership during this week's Fox Business Network debate, which was cosponsored by The Journal.
"Mr. Trump called it a 'terrible deal,' though it wasn't obvious that he has any idea what's in it," the editorial board opined.
The board continued:
"His one specific criticism was its failure to deal with Chinese currency manipulation. But it took Rand Paul to point out that China isn't part of the deal and would be happy if the agreement collapsed so the US would have less economic influence in Asia."
This was a reference to a debate exchange in which Trump repeatedly blasted the Pacific Rim trade deal for not addressing Chinese currency manipulation. US Sen. Rand Paul (R-Kentucky), a presidential-candidate rival, memorably shot back that China is not part of the agreement.
But Trump insists that he knew what he was talking about. He pointed to his frequently stated argument that China would enter the trade pact through some kind of "back door," something he said during the debate before he blasted the country's currency-manipulation policies.

They write stinky editorials by the boat load.
“Gotta love it. Trump is not scared to take on anyone. LOL”
I totally agree. Go Trump Go
WSJ has hit pieces on Trump EVERY SINGLE DAY
Most people would never do this. Trump? Well he would and does, plus he has a mic. That is why we like him.
He is like us. That folks, is why he is ahead.
ROCK ON BIG DOG!
WSJ= open borders pimps.
It’s harder to get an apology out of people by calling them dummies. He’s the master negotiator, though; he must calculate that the likelihood of an apology is near-zero anyway. Might as well score some rhetorical points.
They still do not understand that Trump Lives and Breathes for this very situation. He is a Fighter and very shrewd!
Wall Street has damn good reason with their multiple attempts to discredit Trump.
Go, Trump, GO!!
He's intentionally avoiding terms like con-men, sellouts, betrayers, and the criminally corrupt. So I guess using the term "Dummy" to describe folks in MSM/DC and Wall Street is PC, even for Trump.
Of course if he ever gets into the drivers seat, he'll have access to unprecedented data, classified intelligence, reports, files, backgrounds you name it. Only then will he be able to use those more accurate terms.
Tsk tsk, how is he ever going to get the media on his side with attitudes like this?
Al Hunt?
Their editorial page is strictly liberal but the news side is worse.
WSJ, Fox News, all the same. GOPe/Ruling Class propaganda outlets.
