Women are only a civilizing influence when they have influence over the men.

Historically, it was not the woman who civilized them man. It was the SYSTEM, which required a man to be a stable member of the community, with a decent source of income, before the girls father would allow him to say hello to his daughter.

Patriarchy was the civilizing influence.

And patriarchy is gone, and with it the civilization it sustained is developing cracks.

Muslim rules of propriety also push a woman to marry a cousin.
She has to veil in front of her father in law and brothers in law, unless they are uncles and cousins.
If she lives with a patrilineal cousin, she’ll be able to visit her own parents without her husband’s permission if they all live in the same compound.
If she marries a cousin who then dies, she isn’t sent far away to live with her family while his family keeps the kids.
In Islam, you can have a “hanging wife”, whose husband doesn’t support her but won’t divorce her. Iran actually has charities for them. If she marries a cousin, she can appeal to her father in law / uncle and other relatives to help her even if her husband won’t.

Dennis Prager wrote a long article once on how Judaism was a sexual revolution.
Before Judaism, sexuality was divided by penetrator and penetrated, not male/female. The penetrated was inferior to the penetrator, but the receiver could be a woman or a male slave.
Judaism strictly defined male/female as penetrator/penetrated and made homosexuality unacceptable, something new to the world at that time.
It also constrained sexuality to the marriage. You can’t go *?&# the prostitutes when the urge hits, rape your servant boy on the long trip, seduce a male servant, or release yourself via a camel or sheep.
The limiting of sex to marriage forced the man to devote more time and energy to his wife, instead of only enough energy to ensure a couple of kids were made. This eventually lifted up women from the chattel role one still sees in Islam and Asia (except where their economic role has made them near equals) to one of equality.
Too many Muslims use younger boys as sexual outlets, engaging in pedophilia while punishing the women for existing. Likewise the periodic news stories of men forced to marry goats and cows they molested, though far more are unreported.
Islam’s greatest failing is not adopting the Jewish teachings of women having equal value before God as souls, limiting sex to only the wife and religious teachings to treat her well so that both husband and wife are happy.
But when the woman’s worth is measured only on her virginity and production of sons, you get a product sold to the highest bidder - and families saving money by swapping daughters for their sons, rich and poor alike, while the women are still treated as commodities.
