This guy did the right thing by not canceling the exam. BUT, we have to keep in mind that he was not facing the loss of more than one million dollars if the football team did not play. Schools have to wake up and figure out a way to become less dependent upon football teams for revenue. I wonder if a college could buy insurance that would protect them from financial losses in the event of a team strike. They really need to figure out something because the cat is out of the bag now.

Who granted them the right to strike? This is all a set-up.

The University of Chicago shut down their football program in 1939 over the same bullsh!t that passes for college sports today. They reinstated it in 1969, but they compete as a Division III school which means they have no athletic scholarships.

Robert Maynard Hutchins, the president of the school who made the decision to shut the program down, was the source of what ought to go down as one of the most memorable quotes of all time about college sports:

"In many colleges, it is possible for a boy to win 12 letters without learning how to write one."

The problem is not the loss of 1M if the football team did not play.

The problem is the football team is in the middle of a losing season. The football players are losing on the field and flunking in the classroom.

Blaming whitey is now they respond.

Forget about insurance, how about digging a little bit into those multibillion dollar endowments?
