Trump's Immigration Solution: Bring Back Controversial 'Operation Wetback'

by Sandra Lilley

On Tuesday night's Republican presidential debate and again on Wednesday morning, GOP candidate Donald Trump touted the controversial 1950s "Operation Wetback" program as a way of dealing with the nation's approximately 11 million immigrants currently without legal status. Under the Eisenhower program, immigrants inside the U.S. were rounded up and deported to remote places, resulting in deaths and criticism of human rights abuses.

On NPR Wednesday morning, conservative Republican Alfonso Aguilar slammed Trump's comments.

"The Eisenhower mass deportation policy was tragic," said Aguilar. "Human rights were violated, people were removed to remote locations without food and water, there were many deaths, sometimes U.S. citizens of Hispanic origin were removed, it was a travesty, it was terrible. To say it's a success story, it's ridiculous."

“conservative Republican Alfonso Aguilar slammed Trump’s comments.”

Never heard of this agitator. How many rocks did they have to turn over to find him?

I have a feeling these guys are hired to pretend act as conservative - pick an ethnic group Jeb Bush is appealing to - by the Super PACs backing Bush or whomever.

These super PACS probably have ethnic actors that they hire to pretend to be Hispanic conservatives, etc. on demand.

Trump knows as does any rational person that all you have to do is announce you are going to start deporting people and they will pack up and start leaving in droves.

Would you rather pack up all your stuff and drive your truck back across the border or get picked up on the street, put on a bus and sent home with the shirt on your back? Nowadays we would likely be flying people back to Central and S American countries not just dumping them across the border. for every 1000 you deport 20,000 will flee.

I`d ad to those laws a few crucial items:

You massively fund E-Verify

You make it a Felony to attempt to evade E-Verify or subvert it`s process of verification thru ID fraud or any payoff/bribery with long, mandatory jail sentences and MASSIVE fines.

You enact laws that are INTENTIALLY DESIGNED to financially eviscerate and bankrupt any entity, company, or corporation that dares to employ anyone that is an illegal. You also enact mandatory jail sentences.

You take those funds raised via the fines and give rewards to the individuals AND police agencies who turn in or arrest employers and entities that aid illegals in the US-I call that 'The drop a dime, make a bundle act."

You make it a felony and federal offense to give any illegal ANY taxpayer funded largess, backed with massive fines and mandatory jail time for violations.

And last but certainly NOT least. You strip Sovereign Immunity from ANY governmental official AND agency for offering aid or assistance, to include 'sanctuary cities', to illegal aliens.

With such teeth, there will be no need to create and empower a US Gestapo that WILL INVARAIBLY BE TURNED AGAINST US, the same way they`ve turned the NSA, Patriot Act, the no fly lists, the executive orders,... The freakin list goes on and on!

Don`t support their Hegelian Dialectic, they create this illegal alien problem then step in with the solution, the last trappings of the police state, it`s working that`ll be coming for Conservatives, given we don`t support that police state.

Did Ike really do what Trump said he did?

Regarding Trump’s plan to send back the illegals, he hasn’t told us how quickly wants to get it done.

I agree with another poster that he will simply apply enough pressure so as time goes on lot of them will go back and then reapply.

Like you say crack down on employers AND cut off the welfare to illegals, they will self-deport.

You've got to RICO the illegals who own businesses and seize their assets, as they're the number one employer of illegals. There are few major businesses who knowingly employ illegals.

How typical. The communists at NBC are against deporting the illegals.

Seize business assets? What we going to do with all those lawn mowers, chain saws, rubber boots, concrete trowels and carpenter tools? Biggest most illegal’s business assets are their fancy SUVs and decked out pickups.

The real illegal employers are meat packers, hotels, landscape companies and construction companies.

The vast majority of illegals picked up and went home, all by themselves, the same way they illegally entered the USA

Seize business assets? What we going to do with all those lawn mowers, chain saws, rubber boots, concrete trowels and carpenter tools? Biggest most illegal’s business assets are their fancy SUVs and decked out pickups.

Real assets are property; they tend to pay cash for their houses, and buy them to rent out to other illegals.

The real illegal employers are meat packers, hotels, landscape companies and construction companies.

There's no hard numbers just as there's fantasy numbers as to how many illegals are in the US; of the 20 million plus, most are in 'small business' as contract labor. Very few meat packers, hotels, (major) landscape companies and (major) construction companies wish to risk their livelihoods on having ICE come in and hit them with huge fines for having illegals on the payroll. However, they can claim ignorance about 'La Fiesta Labor' providing workers who are undocumented.

If you know different about any particular major company, by all means call up ICE and report that company and collect the reward.

Where do this come up with this “breaking up families” BS? Kick out the kids too. Strip them of their “citizenship” and be done with it.

Here is the humane, logical, practical solution on solving Immigration Problem and Voter Fraud as proposed by engineer and businessman. Can crooked politicians get it and implement it?-----------------------------------------------------------

"The existing Illegals in the U.S. problem can be solved by establishing a procedure for Illegals to register. They could be given about one year to do so. That would give them working permits – visas, say for 3 years and the chance to apply for resident status. They will have to pay taxes and keep registering their whereabouts and employment. There could be a one time exemption – amnesty for those entered before, say 2010. Others would have to go back and apply from their home country. This is to avoid an influx of fresh illegals. It would be humane to give a chance to those who are here for a longer time, with families, actively involved in American life so long as they have no criminal records. This would be humane gesture and recognition of government for not handling the recording (ID) requirements in the past. Criminals, or those illegally crossing more than once, should be deported and barred from future working permits or resident visas. Government to set up immigration offices in states, staffed with capable people, set up proper procedures and handle applications efficiently. Expanded Motor Vehicle offices can be used as a base for issuing and tracking the IDs of all temporary aliens and visitors. You got here – you have to register and notify where you are. Everybody has to have proper ID documents."

You cannot be serious.

The wall first. Then decide who stays and who goes.

No, there is no "deciding who stays and who goes." They're all going. They all broke federal law to get here. I haven't heard of any other country around the world that doesn't protect its borders. We're the only country openly allowing people to enter illegally. They all must go - we need to be America first in everything. Those illegals also don't have "rights" - again, they came here illegally. They're not entitled to a jury of their peers. Their "peers" also came here illegally. They all must go, one way or another. Not a single one may stay in this country.

They’re here illegally, probably invading in some technical classification. What due process do they deserve?
