Ted Cruz on the Vince Coakley Radio Show (Cruz on H-1Bs)

H-1B discussion at 6:30:

I'll tell you, I'm working with my colleagues in the Senate on introducing a package of legislation on reforms to the H-1B program. I have been very, very concerned at the growing reports of abuse of the program, of companies laying off American workers and replacing them with foreign workers. That's not what the H-1B program was designed to do. It was designed to bring in engineers and computer scientists who could generate jobs and add to our economic growth. And if companies are abusing it and laying off American workers, they need to be investigated, they need to be audited, if they've broken the law, they need to be prosecuted. And I am right now actively working on reforms to prevent these abuses because they shouldn't be happening.

And, you know, it's one of the sad consequences of the Obama administration that refuses to enforce our immigration laws across the board...

...they're not enforcing the laws against companies that are abusing the H-1B program. If I'm elected President we will have a Dept. of Justice that enforces the law across the board. We will secure the border.

...I am the only candidate on that stage who has never supported amnesty and who led the fight against the Gang of 8 amnesty bill...against Barack Obama and Chuck Schumer and the establishment Republicans trying to grant massive amnesty...

...people are tired of campaign conservatives, they're tired of people who talk a good game and haven't walked the walk. When it comes to immigration, unlike other candidates who give speeches, I'm the only one who has a proven record of leading the fight to secure the borders. And I give you my word, if I am elected President, we will secure the borders...and there will not be amnesty.

If there was any evidence of lawyers' paychecks being decimated by H-1B,
that program would have been killed off years ago.

Some clarification on Cruz' H-1B policy for the record.

Won't matter to some of the "principled" lemmings we have here - they are incapable of intelligent discernment and insist on giving up the whole store because they perceive something that they don't like - whether factual or not matters not a whit to them.

I did the very same thing. I told his campaign that if they wanted my money, they’d better clarify his position on the H-1(B) visa issue. Not that they paid any attention whatsoever to me, but I suspect the volume of inquiries prompted them/him to respond and clarify. Hopefully, this is the final hurdle on the way to ensuring the nomination of Ted Cruz.

He was registered as a Dem for 8 of the last 29 years.
At least present your ‘facts’ clearly. To state it as you do, suggests he’s been a Dem until that time.

That is false and I do hope you know that. Makes you look a little silly to state it otherwise.

Huh? I even stated the exact month/year that Trump was a democrat (Aug 2001- Sep 2009). How is that lying? Are you that stupid of a Trumpet?

And btw... Number of months and years Ted Cruz was a democrat.... 0 years 0 months.

I won't even provide you a detail and comparison of Trump contributions to Hilary Clinton and the Clinton Foundation. I'll give you a clue.... It's a pretty big number, and the amount Cruz donated was ZERO.

IF you want to keep playing, I'll give you a rundown of liberal positions that come Trump. Except it would take up too much space. Because if you take away the immigration plank, Trump looks a whole lot like Gulliani.

Why the personal insult? I’ve done nothing to you but point out your error in how you presented something. You did NOT say the timeline, simply that ‘up until 2009’ he was a Dem.

I find it amazing that every single thing someone says that may indicate liking Trump, brings forth crude comments from Cruz supporters. Knock it off, it’s juvenile and insulting.

Why are you talking to me as if I have no idea who Cruz is and what he stands for?

You guys all make this gigantic leap into ‘Trumpsters are this and that...waaa waaa waaa’. People can actually like more than one candidate at a time.

The insult was because you basically inferred that I was lying. (Which I wasn't) You would do the same.,

Read closer. I gave the exact month/date....

Thanks for posting that.

I mentioned something similar, to another poster, recently. They are certainly not helping Cruz’ cause (btw I’ve supported Cruz’ Senate AND Presidential campaigns with my time and $$), by constantly insulting Trump.

State your fact(s) and leave the emotion out of it.

The compromise required border security, no amnesty or legal status for illegal immigrants, and the famous increases in H1-Bs. In exchange for the increase in H1-Bs by 260,000, the bill sought to raise the mandatory wage rate, so bringing in foreigners for fairly low-level work would no longer be profitable. Also in the compromise was a cut in legal unskilled immigration by 500,000. The net effect was to stop amnesty for illegals, and to reduce legal immigration.

Yes, but enough about the facts. Cruz is the devil and needs to be thrashed. /s

Lastly, the use of H1B status should NEVER allow a potential immigrant to gain foothold status over anyone else that is applying for entry.

I'm not sure about that part. An immigrant who already has a job is more helpful to the country than someone who doesn't. All the Republicans seem to talk about prioritizing immigration for people who are filling jobs as opposed to just people who are related to others already here. It makes sense if we want to reduce burden on the welfare system.

the fundamental fact us that the H1-B is a jobs program for non Americans. No Senator or other politician ought to be supporting such a program.

Unless we cut off all immigration, we want immigrants to have jobs when they come here and not go on the dole, right? Our government controls immigration. It cannot be controlled by the private sector. So they have to create immigration policies that help the country.

Bottom line is Cruz is on the right track. We should not have Americans being laid off and replaced with an immigrant worker. But it is helpful to have jobs filled with immigrants if there aren't enough U.S. workers to fill them. A successful American company has benefits for the country beyond how it helps its employees.

“Including being a registered democrat up to September 2009. That would be only 6 years ago. Trust him at your peril.”

Your post #13 is stated above. Forgive me, but where do you see a month/year in this statement?

Honestly, if you want to attack, at least do it with facts. What you say above gives the distinct impression that Trump was a ‘registered dem UP TO Sept. 2009’.

You a tad too eager to jump at me.

You are quite welcome. I’ve sat and read thread upon thread that has far too many insults tossed around if someone expresses an interest in more than one candidate.

It’s exhausting reading these childish comments, and it does not bode well for our side, at all.

And I apologized. Again, just to set the record straight.......

Donald Trump was a registered Democrat August 2001 to September 2009.

Have a nice morning.
