Don’t these tests usually take place in more remote areas? Why is the Navy suddenly doing these tests just off the California cost?
What ever happened to that supposed ship that was headed to those Chinese man made islands?
May God Bless our Navy. They had netter get ready quick because the Chinese are coming.
It occurs to me that there may have been an unexpected discovery regarding the reliability of the SLBM inventory and this very public ‘testing’ is intended to send a message to both friend (those Obama hasn’t driven away) and foe (an increasing number) that the U.S. is ‘doing something’ about it.
Ohchumply continues his impotent saber-rattling to China.
You guys better watch out or..or I my next test come a few feet closer.
Wasn’t there a flap and lots of fun made when the guy who is head of North Korea did this not terribly long ago?
I had been hoping I’d never see the day when one of these left its launch tube. Now there’s a second one.
Worst leader in the history of the world.
They should amend that total to Launched a Nuclear capable missile.
The Navy won’t launch an actual nuclear tipped missile unless we’re at war.At least I hope not.
So let’s get this straight.. On the same day He said keystone would make... Did he say.. The planet.. Uninhabitable..
He tests fires a trident which is specifically designed to carry a nuclear warhead..
How many personalities are in his head?
Bigshot soebarkah
We keep trying to send messages to China about American resolve.
Unfortunately, we still have the same, old, spineless weenie in the White House.
Reading the commentary from around the net, I can’t believe how much nuttiness this has exposed. Sure, I was expecting some, but not like this. Easily half of what I’m hearing is straight-up tinfoil hattery.
I just read a thread (not on FR) where somebody was seriously arguing that there was an unseen nuclear war being waged all around us. He was serious. It wasn’t some kind of metaphor, he meant actual millions of dead nuclear war.
I remember when I was a kid in California, probably 9 or so in the late Sixties, I saw a big blot appear in the sky roughly due south of the SF Bay Area. I had no idea what it was. I started asking adults. I got a variety of explanations. The nutty ones didn’t sound right. I accepted that it was an atmospheric test of some sort involving some substance being released at high altitude from a missile, probably launched from Vandenberg AFB. Later in life I found that yes, it was exactly that.
What I’m getting at here is that we’re surrounded by screwballs who don’t have the computational power of an average nine year old and will go to pieces if something serious actually does happen. I mean yeah I knew that, but I didn’t think that it was on the order of half of the population.
Everyone unclench. The Trident D-5 just underwent a Life Extension Upgrade in 2014 and this is the Navy checking its work. This upgrade should ensure the D-5 stays viable until around 2030 when its replacement comes online.
The Trident II D5 missile test shots have been a regular event since the 1980s. Boats come home from patrol. They launch a missile. Same for the C4 missile in earlier years.
I’m not sure about test locations. Or whether recent shots are somehow a message to China.
Can’t they aim? San Diego is over thataway.
