Largest and most powerful MAN B&W-branded engine ever built approaches market debut
Doosan Engine has reported that the initial start of an MAN B&W 11G95ME-C9.5 two-stroke engine took place during October 2015 at its works in Korea, followed subsequently by a successful shop-test.

We test 4,000 hp pumps and the problem of heat dissipation is always a problem in testing large “stuff”. We worked on a design for a test loop for some other equipment using cooling ponds with labyrinth channels to make the distance back to the cooling suction longer.
Building test stands, loops and such correctly is sometimes as big a challenge as the article being tested.
It looks like there is a pretty big Water Brake Dynamometer hooked to the output shaft in the lower right of the picture. {blue}

If you are going to do it correctly this is what you have to do. Management with a brain knows it is needed but always question the cost. You have to swallow really hard to build a bench like like this.
I note that it is a 20MW test bench. I guess they are planning ahead.

Yes and wind turbines have such a bad maintenance history you really have to do your homework to see if the thing will run for 20 years without a major overhaul.
Is that designed to work with a flux capacitor?
If there are no vehicles that would fit it, it could always be used as a load-bearing structure or museum exhibit in somebody’s man-cave.

This is way off topic, but I have an old tractor that has no brakes, when going down a steep incline I bottom out a cylinder control valve, which causes the hydraulic pump to work at max pressure, thereby putting a good size load on the engine.
In essence, it’s an engine brake that slows the whole tractor down. I’ve been doing this to that same tractor for over 20 years. Nothing seems to get harmed.
Just about everything about one of the monsters!

Fig 7 shows it, it is pipe in pipe, my guess is outer 12 inch IPS, inner 8 inch IPS?
8 inch @ 300 bar! that is some fuel line???

At these low RPMs, an oil mist does not visualize too well, they might do some sort of injection to keep bearings cool.
You're gonna need a bigger boat.
