Update: news is saying this was from Point Mugu, which isn't possible. This originated miles off the west coast over the ocean and traveled upward and inland. It did explode over the coast near Mugu, so if anything Mugu shot it down. This video starts facing south west oriented to San Clemente island and by the time of explosion I was facing north west.
This nuclear missile launch followed SecDef Ash Carter's speech today announcing USA pushback against Russia.
From a quick reading of various news stories from California stations this missile launch was part of a week long series of naval exercises near Los Angeles. Sounds like they have restricted air space near LAX so the flights have to use alternate routes after 6pm. The Navy said the exercises would start on the 6th and end on November 13th. However they did not tell LAX what exactly they would be doing. So the guess is the missile launch is related. They did tell LAX that it would be noisy and might disrupt people in Los Angeles.

I saw no explosion in the video...at the :28 mark. What I saw was a missile going down range. The higher a missile or rocket climbs, there is less atmospheric pressure. That allows the exhaust to expand outward. I figure, to get suborbital, it has to travel 18K to 19K mph. If you saw it for 10 minutes, you probably saw it go over the horizon.

Anyone who’s been to the School Book Depository building and looked out that window knows this was not some amazing impossible shot. It’s not a mile away as conspiracy theorists would have you believe. It’s pretty damn close. Not a tough shot for a reasonably good marksman with a scope — let alone a Marine-trained one.

It reminds me of the Russian ballistic missile test on 9DEC2009. It was RSM-56 Bulava missile that was also sea-launched and ended up causing a spiral anomaly.
