We tried to get rid of the property tax in ND a few years ago. Overnight, well funded "grass roots" organizations popped up with lots of slick material claiming the world would end if we just owned our land outright.
The measure failed.

Incredible isn't it? Reminds me of when 1000s protested GW Bush's proposed tax cuts and I'm wondering "HTH can so many be against a tax cut?
Duh ... the Takers of Society don't pay taxes.
