(WI) Senate to approve allowing retired police to carry guns

MADISON, Wis. (AP) – A bill making it easier for former police officers who worked in other states to carry concealed weapons in Wisconsin is poised to pass the state Senate.

The bill up for a vote Friday previously passed the Assembly. Once it clears the Senate, it would then go to Gov. Scott Walker for his consideration.

Under current state law, former officers must travel back to the state where they worked to undergo annual firearm trainings with their former agency to qualify for a federal concealed carry permit valid in all 50 states.

If they are former cops in another state and live in Sconnie now, they are citizens and can go get a CCL just like the rest of us...?

Walker gave us a very decent CCL here.. not total freedom, but we were the 2nd to last state to get CCL and he made damn sure we could carry and it wouldn’t be at the behest of some commie sheriff.

Retired LEOs qualify under the Law Enforcement Officer's Safety Act (LEOSA). They have to stay qualified under the policies of either the agency they worked for or the jurisdiction they live in. Most of the time those requirements are more stringent than those required for a conceiled carry permit.

LEOSA is kind of a mixed bag of results. It makes it easier for LEOs to carry personal guns off duty, but there are a lot of gray areas, such as liability.

License Constitutional carry (aka 'shall not be infringed') should be good in all 50 statesthe U.S. Just need a little uniformity adherence to the Constitution and protection of our Rights.

While a step in the right direction; we should be pushing for all concealed weapon permit holders to be able to carry in all 50 states.

Once we have that; we need to get over the hurdle of limited capacity mags in states like NY and CA. There’s no reason a CCW holder should not be able to have just as many rounds in the mag as a LEO.

We’ve come a long way but we still have quite a way to go.

Even though the 2nd Amendment does not infringe us by requiring a license, Trump said it best when he noted that driving is a privilege and a driver license is honored in all States, so the 2nd Amendment Right also needs to be honored across the board....
