Republican presidential candidate Texas Senator Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) stated that if ISIS took down the Russian airliner, it’s “an opportunity for the United States to focus Russia’s energy on ISIS” and expressed support for greater arming of the Kurds to fight ISIS and increased airstrikes while not expressing support for putting US boots on the ground on Thursday’s broadcast of CNN’s “The Lead with Jake Tapper.”
Cruz said that if ISIS is responsible for the downing of a Russian airliner in Sinai, “this is an opportunity for the United States to focus Russia’s energy on ISIS. ISIS is the face of evil, and if they’re responsible for this horrific terrorist attack, that’s all the more reason for a concerted effort, and a concerted commitment to destroy them. I mean, if you look right now, part of the problem is, Putin, I think, has taken the measure of the man in Barack Obama and doesn’t respect him, and it has limited — once Putin determines that Obama’s not credible, that he won’t do what he says, that makes the prospect of our working together seriously to target ISIS a lot less plausible.”
When asked if greater cooperation with Russia against ISIS would make Russia’s aggression in Ukraine a “secondary” concern, Cruz answered, “Well, listen, you can do both, and that’s one of the things American foreign policy has long recognized is that you can pursue more than one objective at one time. So, or example, when Russia invaded Ukraine, at the time I called on President Obama to do two things. Number one, to install the anti-ballistic missile batteries that had been scheduled to go into Poland and the Czech Republic. Obama and Secretary Clinton had canceled that in 2009, in an effort to appease Putin. … And the appeasement didn’t work.....

Obama refuses to issue any substantive strikes against his fellow Muslims.
In a perfect world, Cruz’s strategy would be fine but I agree with Trump, Let Russia and others beat the hell out of each other while we strengthen our millitary capabilities, then strike when the opportunity presents itself
Obama doesn’t want to fight ISIS. That is obvious.
Exactly, I agree with TRUMP....let Russia expend their resources for awhile.
I’m sorry Senator but you have the priorities wrong here. We should be getting out of this Obama mistake, not doubling down.
That’s a wasted effort. The only one who cares on whit about stopping these creatures is Putin. Everyone else is willing to roll over for them.
But it wasn’t ISIS that did it...most likely it was Obama’s buddies from the Muslim Brotherhood.
Cruz is absolutely right. Arm the Kurds to the teeth, ramp up airstrikes 5-fold, drop the madness of trying to overthrow Assad and find common cause with the Russians in crushing ISIS.

Hahaha...strengthen our military. Like lowering the bar for women to be in Special Forces, or integrating gays into the ranks of our senior leadership?
Our military is focused on the important things like diversity training.
Not the Kurds.. they've been fighting ISIS on the ground far more effectively than anyone else.
Put another way Ted Cruz said to Russia, “Welcome to the war on terror”.
I’m aware the military is currently a complete mess... I was thinking more along the lines of rebuilding our military while under republican administration
Totally agree, except near Aleppo, the Russian airstrikes have not helped much, Al Nusra just gained more territory. Looks like Russia/Assad and ISIS all help each other.
I agree, and I’m a strong Cruz supporter. Let the Russkies finish off ISIS.
